I just checked out the Litespeed site and it looks like they are only offering the Saber this year. Why, Why, Why, and why choose Saber over Blade? It seems that Blade is a more recognized name and sounds cooler.
The Saber had received all these new features for 2007 including internal cable routing and a cool new seattube with a formed “cutout”. With all these changes the Saber all of the sudden was very close to the Blade in terms of technology but at a lesser cost. So we decided to no longer offer the Blade as a stock bike until we come out with a completely redesigned Blade.
cool. It seemed that they were getting close in their specs, especially after the Saber lost the carbon seat stays. I love my Blade and was hoping it wasnt gone forever.
Is ther already a “radical” design change or is this just a thought?
Herbert will it be marketed as the Sabre in UK and Europe to echo the European origins of the word? I just wondering how it would be accepted “perceived” to be mispelt in the market or will it be a North American market product?
Just curious, I have an older Saber with the carbon stays (an '02 i think). Why is this considered inferior to Ti stays? I still really like my bike even if it doesnt have the fancy wheel cutout and aero post.
We are batting around a few ideas regarding a new Blade but it will take quite some time before it is ready to reveal.
@Julian: We know that Sabre is spelled different in UK, but in this case people buy this American bike with the understanding of that American Saber name, or typically don’t care about the name.
@S&SDad: Your Saber is a great bike. The carbon seatstays are just no longer as popular in terms of bike fashion. But in terms of technology they are fine indeed.
Love the pic of your wife behind the frame! Actually probably only your girlfriend. That woman doesn’t look like the marrying kind. If she is, you have done well my friend, but keep an eye on her.
Nice bike, Hot wife? Don’t bother buying a lottery ticket, you’ve already used up all your good luck for this lifetime!
Rmember to enjoy your life, it’s all down hill from here (only because you are at the top of the heap) Oh yeah, that couch…is it an antique? Looks nice. Either you or your wife has nice taste.
It would seem Litespeed has been relegated to the back of the pack in “high end” tri bikes and is in no hurry to do much about it. The saber/sabre is a bike very rarely ever seen at a race…
My full Blade racing machine is under 15 lbs.
Not to be ‘that guy’, but I call bs. Under 15#. Mine was right at 19 out of the box (assuming our scale is correct). No budget to drop any wheel weight from the RD’s but hope to this summer. 15. Really?
I don’t ride stock bikes - I enjoy building my own. The major drop in weight comes from wheels - Reynolds DV UL (1200 g set) with Vittoria Crono EVO CS (170 g each). Fork - Reynolds Ouzo Pro Aero. Other light stuff worth mentioning - Cane Creek brake set (250 g), Selle Italia carbon seat (99 g), USE triathlon seatpost (174 g).
As do I. That titanium frame is terrific. I had my '03 Sabre retrofit by Rich Ducar’s shop last November. New 10 speed drive train, Zipps, new set of decals and the Profile carbon t2’s. It looks great and I can’t wait to get rolling again this spring.
I own the Saber and one of the new MerlinWorks road bikes. I like titanium.
