List for Race Day...what to pack?

Before my last race, I was packing my transition bag and was terrified that I was forgetting something. I ended up not fogetting anything, but I want to prevent this panicing feeling from happening before A REALLY IMPORTANT race. So, here’s my list.

What have I forgotten?? I’ve not yet done an IM, but if there’s more to add for that, please do so!

  • Aquaphor ointment

  • bike race number

  • goggles
  • earplugs
  • race swim cap
  • two pairs of socks
  • running shoes
  • sunglasses
  • hat/visor
  • bike shoes
  • helmet
  • pump
  • front tire (make sure it is in trunk!)
  • towel for transition
  • change of clothes
  • bag for wet/dirty race clothes

.

You might want to bring a bicycle, they’re quite popular at IM’s I hear.

Sunscreen

Oops, a bike would help, yes!

Holy Anal Retentiveness, Bruce!! Thanks for this link!

Awesome link. I was going to add wetsuit, but wasn’t sure I wanted to go there!

If you’re swimming in shark infested waters, don’t forget to put your lucky ham round your neck.

If it’s going to be dark when you arrive at the site, bring a flashlight. This was very, very useful at Ralph’s when we arrived at the parking lot at 5:00AM and the wind and rain were howling, the sun was not yet out and there were no lights in the parking area.

Good one, HHC!!!

Didn’t notice any spare tubes, tires etc.

I also like to bring a milk crate. You can put all your transition stuff in it and you can flip it upside down and have a nifty seat.

Here is a copy of my Checklist for IMAZ…

It is also very usefull to have toilet paper in a ziplock bag, because never know whether there will be any in the portojohns or in the bushes.

And yes, sunscreen is important too

How about salt tablets?

For out of town races, I always like to have my own, trusted, familiar alarm clock…

TOILET PAPER!!! GREAT ONE.

Alarm clock, very smart. Salt tabs…I don’t take them but will make sure to add specific nutrition that I take to the list in detailed form.

And the link doesn’t work, romania. Can you repost that link or edit it?

Mike,

Try this link:

This list is AWESOME! I used it all last year and never forgot anything. You check everything you want and can add your own thinks to the list. Click ‘Submit’, then print off your own custom list. Perfect!

Okay guys… sorry that the first link didn’t work. Here are two new links, one is a PDF file and the second is an excel spreedsheet.

Enjoy.

Great list.

However, when I see a list like that, I think that perhaps this sport has become to complicated for it’s own good!
