Another Femur stress fracture
This is the absolute worst. Gutted for her.

I think Linsey had the longest consecutive professional streak at Ironman world championships
bummer
.
Wow I hate to read this. She’s one of my favorite pros, and I’ve enjoyed following her race career
Man what a bummer that really sucks.
It’s obviously terrible for any athlete to miss out, particularly when it’s a major factor in their annual income in a short-ish career.
One observation … is it just me or have their been a lot of over-use bone injuries in the pro ranks in recent times? Is that just that diagnosis is better (i.e. previously they would have reported a dull ache and never been able to pin down what it was), or is there something else going on? e.g. better nutrition allowing more training volume at higher pace, or - dare I say it - some unforeseen consequence of new shoe technology?
I was thinking the same thing!
Charles-Barclay, Gomez, Brownlee, and now Corbin all with similar Stress Fractures!?
I had 2 similar shin bone stress reactions the last few years and the consistent thread is Alphafly’s. I used to wear Vaporfly’s on almost every run then switched the Alphafly’s. This Year, I only ran in Alphafly’s on interval workouts (non carbon shoes on other’s), but ran into the same issue after one very hard session.
These pro’s push their bodies very hard and using the latest carbon shoe tech, wonder if there is a common thread?
One other theory could also be that we see so much more Some and follow the athletes alot closer nowadays that maybe it gets shared more or we remember better.
Before it might just be out with injury.
I race in vapor/alphaflys. There is no way I do long runs or intervals in them. There isn’t any support. I have run my fastest times since high school at every distance from 1mile to open marathon in them and I’m 50+ but if I wore them for anything other than racing I wouldn’t be racing.
Stinks for Lindsay, she was the first Pro my family met the first time I did Kona. She was very nice and spent time talking with my then 11 year old daughter.
Lindsay has had it before in I think 2013. She also went conservative route (i.e. non-weight bearing/non-surgical route). I think paula findlay has had multiple stress fractures/reactions through her career.
I had a femoral neck stress fracture in 2019. I had significantly upped my running milage. I also have unusual risk factors though with a benign tumor/growth on opposite side of fracture, likely had since birth per my orthopod and severe vit D deficiency. I decided to go conservative route and if I do refracture it, i’d get surgery/pinning.
Just my 2 cents, but if carbon shoes had any factor in increasing risks, I agree that it’s because people are recovering faster and running more miles in them and also possible because they are also running faster too thus more impact.

I had a stress fracture in my femur back when I was running in college, but it was in the middle of the bone. Are Brownlee and Corbin’s fractures in the thigh or up higher where LCB’s fracture was? Either way, it’s strange. I was told my my Dr’s that I should play the lottery because it was a very rare spot for a stress fracture.
Totally bummed when I saw her post - what a record and career.
Chiming in on the sfx question of why this happens to high level athletes - in my experience this has little to do with footwear and a lot of this injury comes down to overuse and under-fueling.
Having suffered from multiple sfx myself, my issues were tied to not eating enough and my weight dropping too low while maintaining a high training load. This is relatively common and described fully as RED-S (relative energy deficiency in sport). Very common issue in endurance sports given the high training load athletes maintain throughout the year.
This is a terrible way to end such a great career. She had an amazing run of Kona finishes. She and her Husband were also some of the first to really understand how Social Media, photography, and video could really be used to market her business. Class act.

I see what you did there…
Longer than Ken Glah?
I forgot about Ken
Tough ol’ Ken
.
Bummed for Corbin. She’s put in a lot of mileage over the years so I imagine developing a stress fractures at some point is almost inevitable.
Out of curiosity I looked at her races on the obsitri app. She’s finished 80 IM branded full or 70.3 events as a pro (and 7 DNF’s). Man that’s is a lot of races an the pro field
replying to last post…
Linsey had a femoral neck stress fracture back in 2015 (or late 2014). She was getting back to training as I had my first (and only so far) stress fracture in the same place. I was gutted and it was awful. I actually reached out to her asking how she was and how she recovered. She was so kind to email me back with so much support. She is a good person and a top-notch athlete. I have the utmost respect for her. She has been one of my favorite pros over the years. I am so sad to learn she has another SF. I know many of the top runners in the world have had these stress fractures. Even Meb had a bad one in his hip or pelvis.
For me, I had two doctors confirm my BMI was too low and I was over training. I was also heavily restricting calories and training way too may hours. I flew too close to the sun and went down. I don’t think Linsey was doing this but the pros do put in a ton of hours year after year. And they may walk a fine line at times between health and injury.
I wish Linsey the best and sending healing thoughts her way!
ETA - just an fyi to the OP, she spells her name Linsey, not Lindsay
