I have been asked to start a swim lesson/swim fitness program here in SoCal, USA. The swim fitness part would be swimming lengths of the pool, learning drills and doing sets. As I would be an independent contractor, I was asked if I had liability Insurance. I do not have that. I spoke to a personal trainer who pointed me to a site where she gets her insurance. As it turns out the price was right but they only cover water aerobics not swim lessons. Go figure…
Does anyone know where I could find Insurance for a swim lesson/swim fitness program? THANKS!!!
Swim lessons: If you’re WSI certified & can offer the program under the auspices of the American Red Cross, you’ll have some coverage. For the fitness/competition side look at USMS and personal liability insurance on the open market via your insurance agent.
if you have any type of coaching credential (USA Triathlon, USA Swimming etc) you already have the insurance in place, but since you are asking I assume you aren’t a certified coach.
You can try here, https://www.hpso.com/quick-quote/page1.jsf
or try contacting www.esixglobal.com, this is who provides the insurance for the USA Triathlon coaches.
Mike when you coming back to the East to drop the hammer on unsuspecting tri geeks? Are you still fast as nutz? You were usually done when I rolled into T2.
Thanks for all your great responses. This is a very helpful start and I really appreciate it.
In response to your comment, I actually have ASCA Level 2/masters certification.
When not coaching the college men’s and women’s swim team, I teach a fitness swim class at the college as part of their Exercise Science program. Through the swim club I work for, I coach masters and novice teams year round. I have been running a lessons program on weekends for the club. But all of that is under the club insurance. I never had to worry about insurance. Never even thought about insurance unless it was home or auto. Now that it looks as if I have an opportunity to expand, I need insurance.
