Lewisburg, pa, OW swim spots?

I’m traveling to Lewisburg, PA this upcoming week and was wondering if there are any decent open water swim spots that you all know about. I’ll be in town Monday thru Friday. Thanks in advance.

Can’t help with OWS but Bucknell has a great aquatics facility. Not sure on rules for visitor

Check out shikellamy state park. I don’t know why you couldn’t swim but you might want an kayak escort or something. My dad’s place overlooks the marina area. It is a damned up river. Maybe 20min drive from Lewisburg/Bucknell.

Augusta lake is created when they inflate the dams on the Susquehanna in sunbury, but will be filled with boats this time of year.

Try RB Winter State Park in mifflinburg, which is just west of lewisberg

There is a group swim sometimes from Shikellamy State Park in the West Branch of the Susquehanna. (Park is where both branches come together). The rub is that it is technically legal to swim there, but not to get in at the boat ramp. S they go pretty early before any boaters get outl actually, the get-in is at the Northumberland boat ramp. I can check to see if anyone is planning to go out this week. Our main organizer has been swimming a lot lately. I’ll text him.

As for other locales, Susquehanna River is about it. All the lakes around are posted no swimming. The one state park with a guarded beach is ridiculously cold and very small. I have gone out with a new wetsuit and swam just past the rope with no problem, but we’re literally talking a couple hundreds yards at most. (This is the aforementioned R.B. winter.)

If you don’t mind bootlegging it with a kayaker, but techinically breaking the law, I think Walker Lake near Troxelville would be a great place to do a triathlon, but again, totally illegal to do so. Also not terribly far from Lewisburg, the montour Preserve has a great lake, but you’ll be an outlaw.

Finally, the best thing i can tell you is to stop in downtown at DJ Sports, a dedicated swim shop. If there is any secret to OWS nearby, they will know.

Thanks for the info. I may look at bucknell to see if they allow visitors. Also, noticed there is a Y just north of Lewisburg. I’ll check out the area tomorrow to see what’s around.

That Y in Milton is where I learned to swim as a kid. Not very busy pool, BUT it is a 20 yard pool. Just fyi. Still waiting to hear from the ows underground about a group swim. The ymca in Sunbury is a 25 yard pool. Limited lap hours at both Y locations.
