Less expensive alternative to Nike Air Zoom Vomero+ 3

Any suggestions? I love the shoes but hate paying for the stupid ipod technology since I have a Garmin and do not own a Nano.

By ipod technology do you mean the foam filled hole? There is a sale on at roadrunnersports.com.

Dude, there is no technology! There is just a hole there.

Duct tape and two pillows.

so the little thing that fills the hole is not some hi-tech flux capaciting ipod transponder fractal? I paid $125 for just shoes?

That 'little" thing does NOT come with the shoe  yes you paid $125 just for the shoes… Tht little thing is about $40 and ofcourse you need an ipod too so if you don’t have one add $150 to $250
Where have you been last 5 years? Hidin in under the bed???

No - I have a ipod classic and a garmin so I haven’t paid any attention to all the ipod nano interactive equipment - I do feel like an ass though. To my original point though - you may not be paying for the technology but you are paying for the capability.

I’d still like to find a cheaper alternative. My wife and I were BOTH just laid-off so I am trying to cut some corners so I can at least keep running.

Cut corners?
Here are some discount retailers…

www.6pm.com you can find up to %60 off runing shoes. I warn you their search do NOT work properly better select the brand and browse one by one…

Have you tried using rabbit ears?

I get all my shoes from here.

No they don’t carry Nike. Nike make very cheap shoes IMO.

Have you thought about the Pegasus? They are significantly cheaper than the Vomero and the cushioning is comperable.

I love the vomeros. Definite upgrade from pegasus, which I ran in for over a decade. I find them for $109 at academy.

thanks… I found the Vomeros at Roadrunners for $99 on sale plus I got a $25 off in the mail… next go round, may try the Pegasus.

I agree with the pegasus suggestion if you want a cheaper shoe that’s also very good. However, you should consider the amount of $ you put in to triathlon and consider the relative importance of the other things you buy compared to the importance of a good pair of training shoes.

Many people don’t think twice about dropping $100 on a seat, or $400 on the greatest aerobar (not likely any faster than that $200 bar) but then skimp on shoes that protect your legs and enable you to continue training for your race fitness.

Good point that. Anyway, I’ve run in both shoes. I basically started running in Nike Pegasus since they came out. Since then I’ve moved around from one manufacturer to the next. It’s strange how a lot of runners out there are real shoe snobs and have snubbed Nike. It’s good to see them making some competitive shoes in the running shoe market now. After years of running and many, many shoes later, I really like the Vomeros. I’ve been running in them for a few years now. I usually wait for the sales to come around here in the UK and end up paying around 60 pounds for them. I think that with today’s exchange rates, this ends up being a close parity to the US these days.

I just got into working out and tri’s this past spring and picked up the vomero 2 at Academy. After I wore them out I went to a local shoe store to get fitted, I didn’t know squat about different running styles etc when I started and the folks said well you picked out a good shoe for a neutral runner and they brought me the vomero 3 to try on along with 2 different manufature pairs. I tell you I really liked the vomero 3 and have I believe I have about wore them down so I will be looking for another pair but like you I didn’t want to pay another $125 but I will if I have too. Thanks guys for posting up the internet links to different running shoe store sites.
