Fun race, but what was up woth all of the flat tires, and did anyone else get really get bummed when they found out it was two loops…?
Cline has been closed to traffic for a year or two now, I don’t imagine anybody pays much attention to the road.
I actually thought the roads were fine, but there were a good number of people on the side fixing flats. I hope whoever they had to bring an ambulance on the bike course for ended up ok.
The bike course being 3.5 miles too long, well that’s another story.
The extra bike miles didn’t really bother me too much. It was the same for everybody. On the plus side, it was well organized, and the vibe was really good.
Was the lake cold as nutz? I had an ice cream headache for a month last time I was there.
Nope, wasn’t bad at all. 60 or higher. Perfect for a wetsuit-legal.
Thought the entire day was perfect! The weather was beautiful and I really enjoyed the race! I thought it was very well run and organized. The water temp was great! My gps wasn’t working so I had no idea on my bike distance and I heard alot of people were taking feet out of shoes only to realize they had to do a second loop. Was definetely a mental blow having to go around again but eveyone did it! Overall I loved the entire day! Actually stuck around for several hours enjoying free beers and a great time with all the teams! Already planning on doing it again next year!
The results were posted for a few mintues yesterday, but the link disappeared. Does anyone know what happened?
Overall, it was a great race and the weather was just about perfect. I can’t complain about the bike distance, but they should at least get it right up front. Part of the problem was that last year, it was only 22 miles, and the course map appears to be about the same as last year and certainly doesn’t quite match what we raced - there was a change to the run course from the course map as well. So, I think it’s just a matter of expectations. I kept thinking how can this be another full loop when it was obvious that it would be well over 40K - ended up being about 28 miles. Did end up apparently rolling the fastest of the day on the bike at 1:04:11 and took it easy on the run to finish 23rd overall. I say apparently regarding the bike split, because in the overall they have some people with improbably fast times who obviously didn’t do both loops. Mancona who posts here was second fastest on the bike and 6th overall. Some real fast guys out there yesterday. All and all, I think this is a great race, they just need to get the course maps and the distances squared away and out to everyone so that we know where and how far we are racing…
Seem to still be here:

Were they posted elsewhere? The overall is a bit messed up, but I think the total times are correct. The age group list seems to be more complete/accurate.
Yes, great race and I plan to go back as well. They did a really good job and the most seemed to enjoy the team competition.
The roads where a little rougher than I would like but having them closed to traffic was great. Turning every 1-1.5 miles got a little old as well. I had the same reaction as everyone else and at the turnaronud north of transition I had already gone over 13 miles so I figured it was gonna be real long on the bike. Both the bike and run were slightly different (i.e. Longer) than shown on the course map on the webpage. I’m guessing they are trying to sort it our as last year was a little short and now this year then went a little long. Hopefully next year they will settle right in the middle and it will be dead on.
My garmin had the swim as 1.02 (didn’t take a split until entering transition). Bike as 27.81 miles to from my transition spot and run as 6.04 miles.
I hope the race continues to grow and that they continue to allow race morning packet pickup.

Nice Ride, it looks like everyone that was faster than you only did a single loop.
Race of the day…Steve Smith. 63 years young. Beats all but three AG guys and half of the “All Star” field.
I saw him on my way out on the run and was dumbfounded! “Who the heck…? What the…? Did he short the course?” Nope, he’s just that fast.
I didn’t notice the long length of the bike until after, but did notice they changed the route from that shown on the provided map. They did the same for the run as well. No big deal in the end.
Whoever needed the ambulance on the bike must have had their head down and clipped or plowed into the roadside flashing signage trailer as the crash scene was right behind it. Ouch.
Dude went over the bars. It was “agony of defeat” worthy.
There’s a 58 year old listed as having completed the bike in 00:46:10. That’s got to be a one looper for sure.

I agree it was a great race.
Nice bike split, but at the risk of sounding like a jerk…unless there is a prize for the fastest bike split, the goal is typically to have the lowest overall finish time.
It was ironic how the bike was 3 miles short last year and 3 miles long this year…no a big deal though, everyone did the same course (except for the folks who only did one bike loop).
Oh, I agree. But if you can’t run and you can’t swim, you got to brag about something. And this is Slowtwitch, so the bike split is all that really matters
And to the comments above about Steven Smith, very impressive - very inspiring. Gives us old guys hope that we can still get faster as we age.
Light trailer collusion is probable. The forks on his ride were both completely snapped off just an inch or two below the steer tube. Some good bumps out there, but failure at that level without a collision would be… unlikely. Whatever happened, there were undoubtedly a few seconds of real drama. Hope he’s good.
I’m a member of the feet out of the shoes club. Two laps… Oh… Didn’t read that anywhere. Oh well…
Great event. Love Leon’s enthusiasm.
The second lap was a bit of a surprise to me too. When I was on the off ramp from the highway, I was wondering where the rest of the course would be. Then, as I was approaching the end of the first lap with 14 miles on my computer, I was just a bit surprised to see that I had another lap. It’s not a big deal, I’m just curious how that’s affecting the results, I feel like my avg bike pace was higher, which it would be if they’re using 24.8 miles to get the average.
Was anyone esle in wave 2? I swear they never announced wave 2 to go onto the pier, me and two other guys were sprinting down the pier to get into the water before we went off. That made for a little pre-race excitement. Overall great race, you couldn’t ask for better weather. I’m curious to see what they do with all the video footage they took, seemed like there were camera guys everywhere.
