Lemond Revolution wobble?

Over the past 5 rides or so, I have noticed that the main wheel (the one the belt runs around) has a pronounced wobble. It does not feel loose, but there is a visible side to side movement when I am pedaling at all RPM’s. Anyone else experienced this?

Don’t know that its a problem for sure, but since I plunked down $500 on this thing I want to know it is working properly.

It’s broken…get a new one.

Does yours not have a wobble?

I have tested and seen many of these sell. Without seeing this it is difficult to say with complete certainty, but this sounds like a warranty situation.

Thanks for the response. It does seem to have gotten a little worse, and tonight it was wobbling enough that I was a little worried the belt was about to snap off. Have you had any experience with warranty issues on these/with Lemond in general?

We haven’t interacted with them in a warranty situation yet since we haven’t had any trainers with problems so far. You are the first I’ve personally heard of, not to suggest there has never been a warranty claim.

In general they have been very easy to work with and supportive. I would expect the same in a warranty setting.

I hope someone from LeMond lurks this board b/c they have a chance to shine…or…

Good luck and hope you get it resolved quickly and painlessly.

It’s almost certainly not a problem.

There’s enough variance in the molding process for the drive wheel that almost all of the trainers exhibit a certain amount of run-out or wobble. We’ve tested the trainers at loads/speeds far in excess of what a human could put them through, and the run-out won’t cause failure or problems of any sort.

The belt load is so far under spec for that belt, that even if you hooked your car’s transmission up to the unit you probably couldn’t make it break a sweat, let alone “snap it.” Seriously, ain’t gonna happen.

Never say never, but it’s pretty unlikely that what you’re seeing is anything other than a little bit of drive wheel wobble, and that’s in-spec and not function-limiting in any way for the trainer. In other words, purely cosmetic, not a problem, they all do it, and no, it’s not a warranty issue.

If it does turn out to be something else, though? We’ll cover it.

Yup. I work for LeMond Fitness.

looks like it was the or…

“looks like it was the or…”

I’ll bite.

How so?

Yup. I work for LeMond Fitness.

Mine has a small wobble in the drive wheel too. It had this from ride 1 and haven’t changed at all.

I would think that the important thing here is: Have the wobble changed/gotten worse? Are you sure (I am thinking: you didn’t noticed this at first - now you have seen it and am starting to get unsure if it is getting worse). If it in fact IS getting worse I am sure Lemond Fitness will take care of you: They seem like a really great company regarding costumer care

I am no technician and do not work for Lemond Fitness: Just wanted to share that my trainer has a small amount of wobble to the drive wheel too.

Are you kidding? You guys let a product on the market that you knew could WOBBLE? I smell some serious potential problems lurking here.

I have not purchased a Revolution for this very reason Fred. Although I cannot tell any difference from the Houdaille Road Machine which I have ridden extensively I knew there would be issues, always are with something ‘new’ even when it’s based on a previous design. As a matter of fact I posted a message to the old Revolution thread last week to see how people were liking them after a month or so because while I’m interested in them there is no way I’m going to be the ‘guinea pig’ test market. I jumped on a Revolution a few weeks ago and liked what I saw, but that is only part of the puzzle when buying a $500 trainer for my decision tree.

There has been so much hype around this thing that I felt bound to give it a test run. my results…

  1. not nearly as loud as a 747…or led to believe…do-able
  2. nice smooth feel to it…more natural feel to it than the KK that I use.
  3. I’d give it a 9 without the wobble.

On a side note…It seems like the concept should give some entrepreneurial engineers a starting point.
The parts needed for assembly look inexpensive.

Yup I rode one a few weeks ago and while it’s not like my Fluid2 it’s certainly doable. Felt solid. That is only part of the equation. No way am I dropping 5 bills on a trainer if I’m reading things like ‘loose drive wheels’.

You may be able to pick one up on the cheap…shortly.
Watch the classifieds tomorrow…

Mine also has a slight wobble. Nothing is loose, it is just that the flywheel doesn’t run quite true. It was like this from day 1 and doesn’t seem to cause any problems, so I never worried about it.

I think some of you misinterpreted “wobble”.
As Bazilbrush wrote: the freewheel just isn’t 100% true that’s all - nothing is loose and the drivebelt has some leeway on each side anyway so that it runs in a 100% perfect straight line - I do not see the problem?

The belt is not what is wobbling. It’s the main wheel that the belt runs over. It has a pronounced side to side movement whenever I am pedaling at all RPM’s. Looks very much like a wheel with a broken spoke wobbling. I’ll try to maybe video it and post it on here.

Oh boy, hadn’t finally come to the conclusion to make the 2 hour round trip to my “local” tri shop this weekend to pick up a Lemond. Now this. Do I wait and let this play out and pick up a KK for now? The weather here has been too much the suck to get on the road.
