Leg warmers (1)

I am looking for full length leg warmers - anyone have a tried and true brand/model? These would be for days when I feel I need full length coverage but don’t want to get out the bib tights. Probably 25-45 degree wearability.

How do they generally fit? (I’ve seen several models list total length…but it seems like based on that it would run pretty high up the thigh??)

Thanks.

Pearl Izumi is always a good standby for this sort of thing. Plenty of people make them but PI almost always gets it right.

They should fit mid thigh if not a bit higher. You want some coverage for your thigh as well.

I don’t think leg warmers are going to work to 25F. If nothing else your chamital area is going to freeze and fall off unless you pair them with some thermal shorts, of which I’ve become quite a fan.

I use these http://www.giordana.com/ for temperatures around 2 - 12 degrees c. They are on the cheap side and very durable.

For knee warmers/leg warmers, I think Pearl Izumi are pretty good. Heck, even some cheaper brands like Novara do a reasonable job with them.

When in doubt, buy the smaller size, leg warmers that are not tight enough and creep down are quite annoying.

I have two pair of relatively inexpensive ones. One pair from Descente, and one from Bellwether. They go from ankle, almost to the hip joint, but I have a pretty short inseam and very muscular thighs so I had to size up a little.

Just for the record, are you guys/gals triathletes or ballet dancers?

Lose the leg warmers for cripes sake. This isn’t 1986, and let’s face it. They’re not a good look. On ANYBODY!

Um, what do you wear in 35 degree weather? And these aren’t the same kind of leg warmers you alluded to in your post.

Are you one of those guys I see in the mornings riding with shorts and bright red/purple knees when it is 40 degrees out? You definitely look “cool”.

I think I will answer with what I actually wear here in WI where it was 36 degrees F this morning. Your smart a** question was not lost though.

Cycling shorts with back long underwear over them (some times I use my cold weather running tights)
Under armour cold gear turtle neck, long sleeved t-shirt, cotton turtle neck, light neon green wind breaker
Levis grey socks, Tri-shoes, PI toe cap warmy things (wife took away the cut-up old socks I was using and bought me these)
Manzella hat, bike helmet, Oakley M frames

Toasty warm for a quick 1:20 ride before the sun came up.

Not fashionable, but got the job done.

Exactly.

There is no fashionable answer. Tights, or cycling leg warmers look the same. Leg warmers are significantly less expensive and give you options if you live in a place where the day may start at 35 and finish at 60 degrees.

In the end, we’re all wearing spandex and look stupid.

Haha Glad to finally hear someone else agree with me…

Ha-ha neon green, I wear thermo pants under Adidas sweats a Spyder or adidas compression under shirt with a sweat wicking shirt over top, Giordano jacket, Goretex gloves, Bolle vigilante glasses. Okay I also have that neon green 1980’s looking jacket that I break out when its dark in the morning. Need for warmth overcomes the need for looking good and the extra drag from the weight of the clothes and baggieness benefits my workout also. It’s sort of like wearing ankle weights when you run and then taking them off later.

How do they fit? I didn’t see any sizing on their website. They look like they come to mid thigh.

I’ve tried the PI leg warmers on at my LBS…they seemed really long.

Anyone tried the Assos leg warmers?

Anyone tried the Assos leg warmers?
We’ve sold some Assos stuff in our store and while it’s really nice, I can’t see spending that much on leg or arm warmers. Those items just aren’t complicated enough to be that expensive.

Here is a link to some full length mens ‘Zoot’ leg warmers(XL size only) I have for sale. They have zipps on the ankle region also. They are only $17 USD at present and includes postage and packaging. Am going to write on the page soon that the minumum order is $30USD($50NZD).

Good once your legs are pumped up.
They may slip a bit until the muscles get full of blood though,

Wow! a lot of peeps hate leg warmers.

Ok, here’s the deal. If it’s cold out, wear tights…they just work better.
The only use for leg warmers and/or arm warmers is when the start of the ride is cold enough to need coverage but the end of the ride won’t be. Their sole purpose is to be removable during the ride.

If you start out in the morning when it’s 45 and finish later when it’s 70, then warmers are the ticket.

I don’t see them as a cheap replacement for good cold weather gear.
