Its going numb on some of my longer sets…any ideas?
R - any neck pain, happen at other times, other fingers involved, wrist or arm numb, any opposite side symptoms, happen on your bike too? Just a couple things.
John
Pretty much just during swimming more than 500-600 meters at once. It doesn’t happen during sets, but if I do a straight 500 or more it goes numb…but almost immediately leaves when I take a break.
I have the same problem, always in my right hand. I have yet to figure it out.
It is a sign that you are going to win 1 million dollars…or you are just a freak.
I like the Million Dollar answer. Could be many things if you examine the nerve supply from the spinal cord origin all the way to the terminal branch of the median nerve. Sounds like it’s more of a curiosity than a real handicap. Work up would include a thorough examination, possibly some neurological testing called NCV or EMG (Google them), etc. If it’s a big deal, get seen, if not, endure.
John
Probably the median nerve getting compressed. Could be because of your neck position, or may be at the shoulder if you have any restrictions in range of motion of that shoulder, or it might be at your wrist if your holding an extreme flexed wrist position. Try looking down more if it’s the neck position, try relaxing your hands and wrists if it’s from the wrist. Stretch your shoulders if you have any restriction of motion.
Obviously it’s neurological due to the numbness symptoms. Are you breathing bilaterally or just unilaterally? It sounds like nerve compression at some of your cervical spinal nerves. As stated above, if it’s not causing a handicap, keep on rocking it out!
