Lebron James invests in Canyon

Lebrons investment firm takes a stake in Canyon, could help get the US market on track.

He’d previously invested in Cannondale.

Does this mean we’ll see Lionel court side in LA

Wonder if they’re gonna build a bike for him? I remember Shaq had a custom Specialized (maybe?) and it looked like a tall-bike

Better be careful riding Canyons from now on, you might fall over at the slightest hint of a crosswind.

Canyon is now gonna be able deliver bikes as well as Lebron delivers championships.

So now about 40% of the time you go to buy a bike from canyon it’ll be in stock

Thank you sir for making my week.

If they don’t have to go through Oakland, you should be OK

Don’t know if this is a dig at Canyon or at LeBron, but for the record, the fact that LeBron went to the finals 8 years in a row is impressive, even if the East wasn’t as stacked as the West. Heck, he’s about to enter season 20 and is still a force to be reckoned with. I used to despise LeBron ('14 Spurs was such a satisfying victory) but over the years you have to just have to enjoy greatness (I have a similar attitude towards Brady) while it’s active. RIP Bill Russell

It’s a joke, don’t read too much into it…

Years ago saw a pic of Kevin Durant on a custom built bike as he likes riding to cross train. THAT was a big bike.

A friend of mine was touring the plant in PA when Cannondale was building a custom bike for Shaq. It had an extre downtube.

Found a picture:

THAT’s the one I was thinking of, thanks!!!

Shawn Bradley, 7’6" center for Utah Jazz, was a cyclist until an accident paralyzed him. He was a sight to behold. Mark Eaton, a 7’4" center for the Jazz was also a cyclist. He died while cycling. Reggie Miller the Knick killer is an active cyclist - listed at 6’7" while playing.

I can’t understand it, but LeBron will always be controversial. A friend of mine used to always say, don’t talk about religion, politics, or LeBron.

I love basketball and have immense respect for him although I can’t say I’ve ever rooted for him much.

I like this, all around.

This seems like a solid business investment if you are Lebron’s camp looking to always diversify and grow wealth. A brand that has only been gaining momentum, direct to consumer, coming out of pandemic and supply chain woes. If he provides the added (even if small) benefit of name recognition, and then growing/diversifying our sport, even better for all.

The Decision was a bit silly, and he freely admits that in retrospect. As he matured I have come to really like him. He works for it. Demands the best of himself. I think he is great with and generally loves fans. I respect that he uses his platform to try and speak out and up. You may not always agree, but he takes a stand. MJ, was more about protecting his brand. Brady, I mostly have no idea what he is about other than himself. And that is fine. I appreciate Lebron wearing it on his sleeve.

So, as a proud Canyon owner, win in my book.

Great examples, all. And Reggie Miller currently sits on the USA Cycling Board of Directors.

Can’t believe I forgot about Walton. There was a good write-up about him in the WSJ by Jason Gay a few years back too. These are great examples of how effective cycling can be for folks who have had significant stress on knees, hips, etc. from other activities. Walton’s entire story is amazing, with how broken down his body was at one time.

But Bradley’s crash and Eaton’s death are sobering - it isn’t just sunshine and rainbows. Still risks involved.

LeBron: at age 15 he was anointed King James by sports writers. He gets drafted as a teenager and is given the assignment of revitalizing, not just the team, but an entire city; Cleveland’s identity was hinging upon LeBron’s success. So before age 20 there was more pressure on him to perform than any athlete in history. He has unprecedented runs in the playoffs, wins titles with not much help around him (in Cleveland that is). He delivers that title for his home town. And not once has there been a hint of scandal around him other than faux outrage lead primarily from right wing media.

I dont get it. The man is an icon and a true legend.

And he has hired the right people for the businesses he has invested in so I bet this works out great for Canyon and by extension US triathlon.

Is being that tall on a bike more dangerous? Obviously their centre of balance is way higher than for an Joe or Jane, and when they fall, they have much further to go.

I agree mostly with your post other than one point. You could argue Jackie Robinson had more pressure than any athlete in history. Jesse Owens could be in that category too.
