I just bought the Form Swim goggles and as Polar sponsored athlete I need a watch to get GPS signals for open water swimming. The compatible watches are found here: https://support.formswim.com/hc/en-us/articles/360047822373-Which-smartwatches-can-be-used-with-the-goggles-for-open-water-swimming-
What looks like the least expensive compatible watch is a used Apple Watch 3 that can be bought for $50-60. Otherwise there is Fenix 5 but then I have to pay $120+.
Any reason for not going for the Apple Watch 3? Or a good reason to go for something better?
I wouldn’t do Apple Watch Series 3, as that’s no longer receiving WatchOS updates. Thus, you’re basically one update away from that being a paperweight when it comes to 3rd party app compatibility. Obviously, the watch will continue being supported by Apple for some time to come, but individual app makers could say they only support the latest watchOS platform (e.g. WatchOS 10), and then you’d be out of luck.
Now, if this is something to bridge the gap for a few months or so, then go forth…

Thanks for the input. What unit would you have bought? I can always buy something else and sell it again if somehow Polar gets compatible with Form.
You need Fenix 5 plus and newer. Regular Fenix 5 not compatible with Form.

Thanks. From what it looks the Forerunner 255 or the 745 or Apple Watch SE looks like the least expensive options.
