Leadville Cheaters Caught

Yeah I imagine this will be reduced down, make them pay a fine and be done with it. More or less the shame/humilation from this episode will do them just as much harm in the sport than the actual punishment.

That’s probably what happened at the beginning, not wanting a registration to go to waste, however after that there were a string of really bad decisions.
The RD evidently came looking for her not the other way around. Felony charges do seem extreme, I’m surprised the RD pushed for this, seems like a really dick move.

Just give them a cycling license suspension for a year or two, maybe a fine and require them to volunteer for the next 5 leadville should be enough punishment. Going after a felony conviction is overkill. In this case the crime does not warrant a felony considering what other crimes are misdemenors.

Quoted from Wikipedia regarding misdemeanors:
In some jurisdictions, those who are convicted of a misdemeanor are known as misdemeanants (as contrasted with those convicted of a felony who are known as felons). Depending on the jurisdiction, examples of misdemeanors may include: petty theft, prostitution, public intoxication, simple assault, disorderly conduct, trespass, vandalism, drug possession, reckless driving, and other similar crimes. In the United States, misdemeanors are crimes with a maximum punishment of 12 months of incarceration, typically in a local jail (again, as contrasted with felons, who are typically incarcerated in a prison). Those people who are convicted of misdemeanors are often punished with probation, community service, short jail term, or part-time imprisonment; served on the weekends.
Misdemeanors usually do not result in the loss of civil rights, but may result in loss of privileges, such as professional licenses, public offices, or public employment. Such effects are known as the collateral consequences of criminal charges. This is more common when the misdemeanor is related to the privilege in question (such as the loss of a taxi driver’s license after a conviction for reckless driving), or when the misdemeanor involves moral turpitude – and in general is evaluated on a case-by-case basis. One prominent example of this is found in the United States Constitution, which provides that the President may be impeached by Congress for “high crimes and misdemeanors” and removed from office accordingly. The definition of a “high crime” is left to the judgment of Congress.

I cannot believe how many are saying just ignore what they did. The rules are very clear BEFORE you sign up, if you cannot do the race, you have made a donation. I guess you same folks who love to pick which rules are okay to follow and which ones to ignore should be saying drafting is okay, outside assistance is okay, just throw out all the rules. And to have the guts to get on the podium and take an award from someone else who worked their butt off and their time in the sun was stolen from them who did follow the rules.

I support the RD 100%. Glad some RD has the balls to finally stand up and say you break the rules, you pay the price. Period

Pay the price by being charged with a felony? Do you get charged with a crime for drafting? Your analogy does not make sense.

I can see these people being banned from future races, but being charged for a crime is absolutely ridiculous and waste of time and money.

I’ve made plenty of donations, I’m NOT saying for the RD to ignore what they did. I do think the RD has enough clout that he could have handled it through USA Cycling and not going through the police, DA.
I’m all for rules and I support the RD however the penalty doesn’t match. Geez Lawence Tayler only “might” get 4 years for raping a 15 year old.

That is what is great about our country, we have the right to have different opinions. And if I were king, if someone kills another for drunk driving, it is first degree murder.

How can you ignore that they not just cheated the rules to be in the race, but got on the podium for an older age bracket and took someone elses award. What if that had been your wife that got cheated. Nah, it is okay, right.

It is so easy to justify ignoring, twisting a rule is it not? Would it have been okay if they took an award from you wife, mother, girlfriend with their cheating? Of course it would be, it was just a dumb rule.

uhm, why would anyone want them anywhere near leadville after this? that makes no sense, they should be banned from going anywhere near that course and they should have a lifetime ban from all things cycling.

Get the torches and pitchforks!!!
Burn em there witches…
Handle it in house without the cops.
Time for this RD to take a break and smell the roses.
Igot

Funny you should bring that up. Yes, My wife was “robbed” of 1st place finish in a 10K race just yesterday. Some 10 K racers decided to race the 5K. Should they go to jail? Should the time keepers and RD go to jail.

You are arguing the same thing I am, I agree with you about the rules. However not the punishment!

races have dick no refund no transfer policies you can expect your customers to be dicks right back.

cheaters my ass, you SHOULD make an effort not to win anything when you bandit a race though =)

So, it is okay if they knocked your wife, sister, mother, girlfriend off the awards podium? As long as one can enter and “win”, who cares if they cheated, right. I wonder if they take drugs also.

see you had a good point going until you got ridiculous.

now I can’t take you seriously and think you are dumb, whether or not you are in fact dumb. It is now what I think

=)

funny, i was gonna offer you a ten mile headstart or wait for about twenty to thirty minutes after the start to myself to start come Tour Das Hugel because by the way you post stupid i thought you were retarded, now i’m not.

If one is willing to cheat at the level they did, why would they not be willing to do anything. Plus, you go to at least laugh a little for some of this stupid stuff people do. :o)
But wait, there are no drugs in our sport. Sorry, strike that I made that joke. :o)

what level of cheating would be lower than banditing a race?

we don’t even know if she got up on the podium, she may have gotten 2nd place on accident.

which really was her mistake. proper race banditing procedure involves making sure you don’t place! haha

Yep, there are lots of punishments for laws broken we both think is a joke. But, if we ignore them, would our society be better off?

They caused the mess. If they had just given the race number, and the person just did the event, we would not even be talking about this. But, they not just ignored the rules, they knew they were a bandit in the race AND had the balls to get on the podium and take an award from a person who might have worked their entire life, legally, for this one moment. It is not for me to judge the law and penalty, that is for the system to decide.

I agree with everything you say, except for the punishment! I mean come on a felony! Really? I totally agrre SHE is a total douchebag for going to the podium and accepting the award. She should be disallowed in all cycling races forever and publicly humilated. But a felony? Really?

I have no idea what the punishment should be. But some seem to imply it should just be totally ignored. Now, if they were banned from any type of racing the rest of their lives, I think that would be fair and maybe finally get the message out to some folks.
