Leadville Cheaters Caught

Interesting stuff with criminal charges being filed. Makes me wonder if a precedent is being set?

These women were wrong, no question. But I think FELONY charges are a bit much.

The race director banning them from any races they put on, and if this event is certified by USA cycling, them being banned or at least suspended makes perfect sense.

This non transferable entry thing is a big part of the problem. I do think the transfers need to be handled by the race director so that you don’t end up with basically an auction for spots. If you can’t use your spot, it goes back to the director, how then picks the next person on the waiting list. You lose something like 30 to 50% because of the hassle to the race director. If there is no one on the waiting list, no transfer can happen. Race director ends up with more money, and everyone is happy.

They are wrong, but no way this should be a felony.

Also posted in http://forum.slowtwitch.com/gforum.cgi?post=2818156. I would love to see more races with a low-cost option to transfer registrations. But doing what these women did is simply moronic.

all i saw was this: The crowning of last year’s winner, cycling superstar Lance Armstrong, has elevated the formerly Colorado-centric race to a national contest, drawing the most-renowned racers in the country.

naw, why shouldn’t they be charged? because they are women? they deceived and took from everone at that race and it’s not like it’s a murder rap, it’s a 6th degree felony.

I really want to know why they did that and not just be themselves and race.

got it, spots were filled already. dumb women.

Throw the book at them. It does not matter what folks think about the rules, it IS the rules for now. And to take an award knowing you cheated, sick.

You are right about the award thing, there is no excuse for that.

If she hadn’t finished on the podium, I doubt they would have been caught.

Also, I wonder if they had admitted what happened before the award ceremony, if the race director would be quite as upset. They would probably still be banned, which they deserve, but that might have avoided criminal charges.

if they didn’t want to waist the $250 entry fee, why not talk to the organizer and be honest beforehand? it’s a waist of everyone’s, organizer and district atterney’s, time and energy to have to go through all of this but i feel as if with all cheaters, druggers and imposters by way of name as in this case alike, set a final example and be done with it.

If convicted of a felony (even class 6) it will follow you for life. Ever seen a box… Have you ever been convicted of a felony? Besides jury duty there are a few other things that you may be excluded from.

It doesnt really sound like they intended to cheat, but just didn’t want a registration go to waste. At least that’s what I hope.

no felonies ever thank the good lord but in the cycling world this is following them already, they look pretty damn stupid to all already so perhaps you are in a way right, that alone may be enough for them to deal with, the banning adn the embarrassment. the druggers such as Diluca and Landis should be banned and charged with felonies moreso than these girls but if they do receive criminal charges, i’m not going to lose any sleep. dumbass women.

What waste of tax money in the state of Colorado. Ban them from doing Leadville again and move on. What a joke.

i’ll be the one to say it, i’ve always found *dirt riders to be much more stupid than roadies, like they’re missing a cortex or something.

*disclaimer, in general, not all.

From the way I read it they took awards they did not earn, so at that point there is no doubt about pre meditated cheating. If they slinked off and then told the RD about the situation, then that would have shown that they just wanted to save a few $$…

Yes, they intended to cheat, the minute a 36 year old accepted an award in a 40+ category.

Here’s a quote I kinda laugh at. If they have that much “passion” for the sport, don’t you think they would simply follow the rules. Even if it meant they missed out on a great race. The only passion they have is for themselves.

“Wendy and Katie are passionate about this sport, and it was never about doing anyone harm or doing anything wrong. It was about getting an opportunity to race a great race,” said Miller, who will race her 10th Leadville Trail 100 this summer and finished sixth in the 40-to-49 group last year. “I don’t think it helps the organizers to make this such a big deal. They should just deal with it with Wendy and Katie directly.”

They don’t hold a candle to the dudes you see wearing TAPOUT clothing. MMA fighting is like nascar for urban rednecks.

those girls would look pretty stupid wearing a Leadville t-shirt which I’m betting they will. as for tapout clothing, it’s a business and tapping out is a submission move, as it sounds more or less by way of brazilian ju jitsu,to submit an opponent by way of arm bar or leg or ankle lock or choke hold and by code of honor you’re not supposed to fight anywhere except the octogan.

permanent ban from cycling sports. not imprisonment, where do some of the posters here get their morals from?

a 6th degree felony will assess and come with a fine, court costs and possibly some minor probation/cummunity service, no imprisonment unless they miss their court date or pass it off onto someone else and get busted but it will be on their record but i’m guessing they’ll receive deferred adjudication (a form of probation that if all goes as planned and they do not so much as receive a traffic violation during set period of probation all charges will be dropped and no record) and a fine and nothing more will happen, no record.
