Leadville 100 mountain bike race ... anybody done it?

Just curious. If I get in, this will be my “A” race for late summer. If I don’t get in, I’ll shoot for the 50 miler, which doesn’t require a lottery.

I did this race a few years ago. Finished in 10:30ish. I only rode about 450 miles prior to the race, didn’t start riding until I recovered from WS 100. The race is mostly dirt road and double track with some road miles tossed in. Really only 3 major climbs done twice. It was crazy to see how fast the leaders blew down Columbine as I struggled up. Heard a lot of complaints about this years race, mostly about overcrowding and what some felt was one long Lifetime Fitness commercial at the awards. Wasn’t there can’t say for sure. If you are expecting Colorado single track this may not the race for you.Overall a nice race.

Good luck with the lottery.

when does the lottery open?

Thanks. I’m a front ranger, so I know what to expect up there as far as the riding goes. Just never done this particular race.

when does the lottery open? today
.

Skip it. There’s too many other hundy’s out there, esp out in your area. I’ve not done LV, but I’ve done the Cohutta 100 here in GA and multiple 12 / 24 hour races where I’ve logged 100+ miles on the mtn bike.

Go support the grassroots races!

Do Cohutta and ride some great singletrack!

There’s also Fools Gold in early August. More climbing than Leadville, and according to pro’s who’ve done both, Fools Gold is a tougher race.

I did both this year and I am doing both again next year. The 50 is much more difficult per mile compared to the 100.
