Leadman! (spoiler)

Twitter is telling me Rapp won leadman!

Clap, clap!

A 5K swim, 223K bike and 22K run on a ridiculous course in 9:32. Quite impressive.
From Matt Lieto: “wow. I just got leadmanned! Just about hardest thing I have ever attempted…”

Looks like he won by nearly an hour on the 2nd place finisher (Angela Naeth), and more than an hour on the 2nd place male (Troy Jacobson). Yeah, I know it wasn’t a particularly deep field; but that is a long time to race without being within sight of another competitor.

Big props to him.

I thought this was great

@rappstar I want to be like you when I grow up
.

And beat the winning relay by 30 minutes.

Only competitor to not get chicked.

Congrats Jordan!

John

it was an absolutely brutal course, brutal day, and jordan crushed. they had a half-leadman, which was half the swim, half the bike, but the whole run (1.5m/71mi/14mi). i did that, or, part of that. i had a pretty good swim drafting off some of the slower swimming male pros (everybody started together), led the race for about 50 miles of the bike, wore myself out, started the run, felt bad, thought i’d run a few miles to try to feel better, didn’t pulled the plug at mile-8.

meanwhile, when i got back to my car, and jordan came on off 142 miles of bike (all finishers with electronics on their bkes so far agree on 142 miles, of extremely hilly, constantly hilly riding, took off running looking fresh as a daisy, and my car’s thermometer said 99 degrees.

the run started at lake mead, finished at boulder city, so, a significant uphill net, in that heat. he finished looking just as fresh, but he also said it was harder than any ironman he’s ever done - unreasonably hard. they’ll have to soften the blow going forward. it’s too difficult.

angela naeth won the women’s, and she seems to have that go-all-day physiology, esp when a long bike ride is involved. i think both angela and jordan are both made for this type of race, it’s just that this type of race is probably too hard for pros to do amid a season of other races they have to do. to put it another way, for every jordan and angela there are too many other pros who are stretching up to do ironman as it is. these folks can’t even think about a race like this.

they’re still coming in, they’ll be coming in for a long time, i’m typing from the boulder dam hotel, next to the finish, i’ll go out to see the others come in. any typical age grouper who finishes this thing is a true stud.

hats off to troy jacobson, 3rd overall, then tara norton as i recall, and shanna armstrong. when it gets really tough - really tough - the girls do better and better.

pure awesomeness.

No, don’t soften it! That’s what makes a race like that unique. I’d like to have a crack at that someday, or the Supertri up north. Wish we had something like that here in SoCal!

How is Sally doing?

I finished a couple of hours ago in 14:30. It was a really hard day. They told me that I was 9th overall, that shows you how many people dropped out but I am a 53 year old MOP guy and I finished so I dont think that they need to soften it up. One guy did it on a single speed with 48x17. Great organization, great race. Wind and heat were tough on the bike. Last 5 miles of the run course was really hard. Very glad that I did it. I would recommend doing this race. I hope that they keep it going.

I saw Rapp coming back on the bike leg he looked like a blade
cutting through the wind. Very impressive performance!

Rapp himself: How epic was #Leadman250 bike course? Lead moto ran out of gas right before T2…

The Shiv was flying!

kept reading about all the carnage and was thinking “well yeah it was hot but it was only a half mary after the bike”

ohhh, its uphill! lol fuuuu

Did Lieto drop out. I like Rapp but its hard to picture him putting over an hour on him.

Styrrell

Yeah, he bailed at T2 due to “exhaustion”.

I’d say we crown Rapp as Triathlon’s new King of the Bike! Sorry Lieto 8^)

I’m really stoked for Coach Troy . . . wow!

angela naeth won the women’s, and she seems to have that go-all-day physiology

As you know, Dan she comes from a long line of Canadian long distance specialists who have done very well at the highest levels of this sport.

She’s impressive, to be sure!

No doubt that the Rappstar is a stud on the bike. You could certainly start the argument based on this performance.

wrong lieto
