Leadman 250 Race Report 3rd AG, 18th overall

Its a little late, but Im trying to make some notes that I can use, and maybe you can use it for knowledge if you plan to race this race next year. It was fun, epic for sure, and I will be doing it again. Check it out and let me know if I can answer any questions you may have about the race. I went out there early and checked out the course and it really helped me out on race day. Bonus was I got to spend some time in Bend, I love that town.

one question, one comment:

  1. If you have a Garmin, what did the total Ascent/Descent say for the bike course?
  2. Based on that swim time, I’d say that swimming is your best discipline. That’s a pretty darn good split. (about 1:30/100)

Edit on #2: Just looked at the results and I guess I was wrong! Bike course must have been a doozy.

Cobrakai,

Im primarily a cyclist, up until this year I never ran or swam. I just started swimming in the last 5 months, so it may become a strength but as of yet I think that I just bring good fitness to swimming but not much in the way of technique. The swim times are misleading because I don’t think that the race was a full 5k, more like 4700 or something like that. I think my splits were more in the 1:40/100 range.

I will look at total accent and get back you you quick, I you loose more obviously because you end up in bend but start out higher at the lake.

Thanks for looking at my post, please ask more questions if you have them and I will do my best. Im just getting into this sport, but already loving it. Goals for next year are geared towards Xterra so that I can use my mountain biking skills.

here is a copy from my garmin info, that ride back to Tetherow for T2 is quite fast, losing over 1000’ in about 20 miles or so

Yah, after I went back and looked at the other times I figured the course must have been a little short. Congrats either way. This race was supposed to be on my list for next year, but I got a guaranteed entry to IM AZ, so decided to take that. Hopefully 2015!

Awesome on the IM AZ entry, good luck. This time of year is so exciting with all the plans and scheming going for next year…
Leadman was a very intimate race, your out there on your own and it doesn’t have all the flare of a larger ironman type event, definitely do it at some point.

Thanks for the report, your race went a lot better than mine. I had plenty of chlothes on but my hands got so numb they hurt, spent a hour total at aid stations
finished 9 minutes away from a buckle and had a 19min t2 (couldn’t get chlothes off or on) I loved the race and with the conditions it was crazy hard
I will be back next year to get the buckle! Congrats on your great race!

My brother was in the same boat as you, the cold just got to him. I think that coming from Southern California he wasn’t ready for the cold. I can understand that its hard to plan for a cold day when its over 90F where you live. We found some better gloves the day before the race, it made a difference. Next year right?!
