LAX Layover - Run

Have a long LAX layover on Saturday (6 hours). Would like to use the time to get a run in. Any been through there and done a workout recently? Any gym / hotel that you can get access to for locking stuff up and taking a shower. It seems doable, based on what I can find but I haven’t seen a concreate answer. Any help appreciated.

I like running from here - https://goo.gl/maps/bSkkn16djzcdzUjy5
I’d leave my stuff in the hourly storage at the LAX and just take running gear.

It’s a bike path running through the beach. You’d have to uber there. If you run southeast, you can easily get a 15-20 mile run in. Going northwest, you’d have to hop on the Balona creek bike path after about 3 miles - that one goes inland but is very runnable too. There are beach showers at that parking lot - so you can wash up after the run. You can also hop into the ocean - that beach is fairly ok for swimming.

That LAX area is a bad part of town. It isn’t safe around there. If you’re willing to pay, get the airline admiral’s lounge thing and get a nice place to rest, shower, recharge and eat.

Ben

LOL not a bad part of town.

it depends on your logistics, the terminals you are going to, international or domestic, etc. And you’ll have to re-do TSA security which IME is usually pretty quick (especially if pre check) but like traffic you just never know. But if the timing works out, one option is the beach path above. Quick uber (the LAX Uber lot kinda sucks and will wait longer for a ride than the ride to the beach takes. If you run the beach path, go south, depending on the length of your run you can hit the beach cities (manhattan, hermosa) within just a couple miles.

I am not aware that LAX has any short term luggage storage, however. Might, just never had the need

Another option is Westchester Parkway, a rolling 4 lane road with a 6 or 7 mile loop if you include Pershing. Westchester Pkwy parallels the runway. It’s a very popular running and bike TT route.

Not aware of any hotels with treadmills etc. that grant day access. Would have to call directly

ETA just googled as I was curious… “Can I leave my luggage at LAX airport?
There are no official luggage services or lockers at LAX Airport. A private service called LAX Luggage Storage offers pick-up and drop-off service”
That would add an extra element of PITA

Unless you’re TSA Pre-Check leaving the airport means you 6-hour layover is now 4 hours plus 2 hours back in line in security

Equinox located in El Sequendo and 24 Hour Fitness in Manhattan Beach are two options and close to LAX. If you have Clear and are flying Delta, you will have ample time.

there are a few places to hit pretty close to LAX. strand starting in Playa Vista was mentioned along with Westchester Pkwy. also, you can hit Bluff Creek trail right next to LMU an out and back about 4 miles long. that would be a 5’ Uber ride, only 2-3 miles. as others have stated, it’s just the logistics of getting out of LAX that is a challenge. Bay Club and Equinox have gyms on Rosecrans Ave, not too far. there’s also a great pool in El Segundo that has lots of availability for lap swim and you could shower there. there are very small lockers there but not sure if you can keep stuff there. LGs are super nice so maybe you can leave in there room for a couple hours. you could swim and then very close to good runs along beach.
