Had it done a year ago. It’s very strange but not painful. Kind of a hassle for a week or so after trying not to rub your eyes. But after that-wonderful! I’m 20-20 in one eye and 20-30 in the other. Did not lose my close vision which I consider a bonus and will probably keep me from messing with the one eye to get it to 20-20. The biggest bonus was actually being able to see what is coming when I am water skiing and sunglasses sunglasses sunglasses.
My wife had it done last week and she was riding her bike three days later with no problems. 20/20 vision thus far. She says its the best thing she has ever done…except marry me of course.
Had it done a little over a year ago. Still have perfect vision (20/20 both eyes). Very quick and painless. I sleep for 6 hours after the operation (woke up after 4 hours for eye drops, slept for 2 more), then the girlfriend and I drove around and I was reading street signs before she could. I had eye drops for the day and then thicker eye gel for night time.
Funny Note: Took about a month for me to stop reaching to remove my glasses when getting into the shower at home. A friend would wake up and reach for his glasses for a couple weeks. Enjoy.

The strange parts during the procedure are when they cut the flap and when the laser is actually doing the correction part. (chuckling now because I know I’m freakin ya out) After they cut the flap, they shoot some kind of bubbly stuff on it to cool it down and it make you temporarily blind for a little while. Later, when they do the actual correction part, you see this weird lightshow from the lasers. None of it hurts but it is very strange.
Thanks…I may vomit now… ![]()
Is yours all laser lasik-cutting the flap with laser?
Are you getting the Wavefront procedure as well? I’d highly recommend it. My night vision is actually BETTER post-Wavefront LASIK than it was pre-surgery. No halos. No glare.
Yeah…all laser…they call it Intralasik…
I’m not really squemish (sp ?)…I’ve worked in healthcare for almost 20 years and I’ve got an allergy to Doctors. This is my first ever surgical experience.
Looking forward to it though…I’ve worn contact lenses since high school.
You forgot to mention the smell.
Good luck and let us know how it goes. I’m scheduled for the 22nd of this month. I can’t wait; yesterday, I actually forgot to take off my glasses before jumping in the pool.
Had it done over five years ago and haven’t gone blind yet. Best money I ever spent. You will wonder why you waited so long. Best advice…keep your peepers very lubed for week or so after having done. I wouldn’t too soon afterwards…sounds risky to me.
IT ROCKS! Had it done in January and I love it! Keep your eyes VERY well lubed for the first week or 2, but gor 2 months I’d recommend drops before bed and when you wake up. The Dr. said something about eyes don’t release tears when we sleep? Well lubed eyes heal healthier, so spend the $10 and get the lube. Your Lasik Dr. should be able to set you up w/ at least a week’s supply of samples.
Take their advice and nap tomorrow after the surgery and take it VERY easy Saturday. I ran 2 days later and swam 5 days later w/o problems.
Good luck…I’m trying to find a doc in the Phoenix, AZ area in the next month or so for mine.
I just want to be able to wake up in the middle night and go to the bathroom without having to find my glasses.
Anybody have any recommendations for the Phoenix, AZ area for LASIK?

I had Intralasik done in January and so far, so good. Absolutely no problems. As mentioned here by other, MAKE SURE YOU PUT THE WETTING DROPS IN RELIGIOSLY!!!. The procedure was absolutely painless and it was done before I had time to freak. In fact, the weirdest part of the whole process is waking up now if I haven’t put my drops in and feeling my eyelids stick together. It’s harmless, but it’s a weird feeling that can be avoided by diligently wetting your eyes. People have told me they kept wetting their eyes for up to six months. I thought I knew better an stopped after two weeks. Don’t. Kepp using the drops until your eyes tell you they dont’ need them anymore.
It’s 2 1/2 months on now and I couldn’t be happier. Best thing you can do.
Good luck and relax. There’s nothing to it.
