Landis Wheelie?

Just read a funny article about Floyd riding a wheelie on the Champs-Elysees ('02/'03?). Anyone have a pic or vid?

…relax…I know It’s a tri site but we’re excited…it’s 1/3 of our sport.

Prefer Robbie Mcewens one handed effort though…

Considering he’s slightly in front of Armstrong, I’m somewhat surprised the team is laughing.

That’s a good trick ,the hard part is getting unclipped going over backwards. Don’t ask how I know that.

take a look at the shoes, i’m pretty sure it’s a photo op - laughing was probably encouraged.

It was the post stage promenade lap. McEwen has always done better wheelies though.

McEwen is a fomer BMX’er, Landis MTB’er… there are other guys who wheelie on the Champs Elysees as well, but those two are the most photographed…

Well, since McEwen appears to be an arrogant a-hole exhibitionist, I’ll prefer Floyd’s.

Didn’t Robbie ride one across the finish line a couple years back?

Yeah at the end of a TT, i think the one up L’Alpe d’Huez a couple years ago.

I mean in victory. I’m pretty sure it was in a Grand tour, not sure which though.

To be a great sprinter, you sort of must be in a way. It is a wholly selfish enterprise, the team suffering leading you in for the sprint finish knocking people out of the way, getting the interview the kisses on the podium, all for an athlete with little chance of winning the tour anyways.

“all for an athlete with little chance of winning the tour anyways”

But there is that little thing called the Green Jersey. Sprinters usually have a pretty good shot at winning that

This the pics you’re thinking off

.

I actually like McEwen a lot. He’s one of those guys who gets it done without a leadout train a la Cipollini & Petacchi. He may say the “wrong” thing a lot in interviews, but he always says what he thinks and doesn’t sugar coat it. He makes no bones about his favourite pet peeve, i.e. the non-sprinters who try to get up near the front for the sprint finishes in the Tour. And he is a clean sprinter, for the most part. He may not have that reputation, but other sprinters have said that they cannot recall a crash McEwen has caused.

He doesn’t have the train, actually he perfers to be further back, he does have Fast Freddy to lead him out, well he did till Fred got hurt today.

Duh. My bad. But, now that I look at the picture more closely, I have to say it looks like his seat is too high.

Yeah, it was at the end when the teams all do a lap after the race is over…everyone is just having a good time. He actually pulled to hard and ended up on his ass on the pavement…then everyone was really laughing.

Here’s another one …

I wonder if his coach has him do wheelie repeats???
