Lance's new TT bike/position (new pictures from Algarve here)

Here are pictures of Lances new TT bike/position:

It looks like the bike’s the same, but he’s testing the Jan Ullrich-style straight aerobars that everyone dogged last summer. Apparently he really likes it. Also notice aero-guru and wheel-builder (and all-around nice guy) Steve Hed in the pictures.

I love that photo of Steve Hed, the fella with the long hair, looking at Lance’s handlebars. That is cool. Steve Hed is a cool guy.

I wonder what they were using to messure power.

Steve Hed is a cool guy.
And one of the nicest guys in the business.

Interesting. looks here (and the wheel alter the perception a little) that he’s gone for a very compact set up on a slightly smaller frame ? (more power i’d guess). The whole set up seems very simlar to ullrichs from last year although Armstrong has to ride higher due to his back. I wonder what Cobb will make of it …

I don’t really care for it. Lane was cool because he always rode a little different. Now he’s copying other people’s stuff. Not cool.

-It’s not how fast you are, it’s how fast you look

who is he copying?

Mr. Ulrich and a couple of other "classic TT’rs

Lane (sic) was cool because he always rode a little different.
Other than having a slightly higher cadence than most others, how did he ride “different”?

ullrich’s position from last year is quite different than lances position on these new bars. There forearms are in completely different positions. Lance never really pushed any position boundaries, most of that was john cobb marketing a widely used and known concept to make a profit.

Is it just me, or does Lance look almost identical to last year, albeit with a different wrist angle? maybe there are some slight tweaks, but nothing radical.

I think maybe you recognized the differences well. Here is text from recent Lance interview:

**Why changes in his time trial set-up: **“Change is always a little risky, but some changes are absolutely necessary. There are a few changes to my time trial position - you’ll see a change in my hand position - but I wouldn’t say the majority of things have changed.”

I’m not sure where the “more forward and aggressive” rumors came from.

“I’m not sure where the “more forward and aggressive” rumors came from.”

Wishful thinking. Those TDF guys are still riding slack as the rules specify and are still way faster than the fastest triathletes riding steep.

The rumors came from certain members of this board who believe that a steep seat tube angle is superior.

thanks francois, that pretty much somes it up.

For the record i don’t any particualar problem with this, i just always found it funny when people threw around the term “slam position” like it was the newest, most awsome concept to hit the triathlon world. Hell, the UCI even mandatees it in it’s rules, lance, and every other UCI racer on this planet has no choice but to be “slammed” to one degree or another.

i guess i just missed your post, a ;ittle late to comment on this as lance said the exact same thing. I probably would have never noticed had no one said anything.

Looking pretty aero (and wearing a taped-up Pneumo):

is it just me or does he look a little bit chunkier than usual? looking at pics on grahamwatson.com he look so much bigger than everyone else, including hincapie. he almost looks as big as ullrich. donuts anyone?
