Lance Sunglasses

Ok, an obscure question, but I noticed yesterday and last year during the TTT that Lance was not wearing sunglasses at the finish. I did not see the start, so he may have begun with them. I was just curious if anyone knew why. I know Lance talks in his book about Oakley being the only sponsor to stay with him when he was sick and he is very grateful to them. I would think with all the close riding, you would really want glasses to protect your eyes from rocks etc. Discuss

Lance did not wear glasses for the TTT. One of the commentators remarked on it at the start.

Maybe he didn’t want anything to “hinder” his view Sheryl.

Jeeeez, give the guy a break. He’s superman for pete sake.

Show some respect! Capatalize that “S” on Superman.

He could smite you with his heat vision.

i wondered that as well. How can he not, especially going the speed they go. My eyes get all watery going my pedestrian 35km/h. And do they not have bugs over there? Or am I a big wussy?
I would think one big bug flying into your eye at 60km/h could put a damper on your day.

This doesn’t specifically address why he did not wear sunglasses in the TTT but it does talk about some prototype Oakleys he’s been wearing in other stages.

Sunglasses evidently are big business at the Tour:

“. . . eyewear selection in the opening stage is also huge as millions of people will get an up-close look at LA’s face as he readies in the start line. So Oakley sends Lance quite a few sets of new eyewear for him to choose from.”

I saw the interview when they asked him why not. He said that he planned on sweating heavily during the TTT, and knew he would have to take them of anyway since they would be covered, so he just started without them.

I think the interview was on Eurosport…maybe velonews

Thanks Face, I knew someone out there in twitchland would know.
