They actually got way more into his triathlon beginnings than I’ve seen in any Lance doc. Usually its ignored and just about cycling. Thought that was interesting.
The only thing new I learned last night is that ESPN allows the F word to be said a lot more than I realized.
micro motors designed by aliens?
and yet here we stand, 20 years later, conversing on a forum that was bonkers for Lance with members that doubled and tripled and quadrupled down on his innocence despite all the evidence to the contrary. The original MAGAs.
Lance didn’t fool anyone. People fooled themselves. And continue to do so apparently.
Canadians out there , how did you watch the ESPN documentary on Lance as it was not on in Canada 5/24 .Link anyone …
“My†truth…this guy just can’t get out of his own way.
Found it interesting and ironic that it’s on the heels of The Last Dance. As with MJ, Lance isn’t on my “name 5 people you’d love to have dinner with list”. Assuming ESPN to roll out Barry Bonds and Pete Rose documentaries after Lance’s series concludes.
Having just watched the Last Dance, I felt like there were actually a ton of things Lance said that sounded almost identical to what MJ said. A lot of the willing-to-do- whatever type mentality.
What struck me was how they both absolutely thrived on proving their doubters wrong, and crushing any rival who dared disrespect them. It was so crucial to their motivation that they would both invent slights when they couldn’t find any real reason to be angry.

It wouldn’t shock me, but is there any evidence, informed speculation, first hand (or even second hand) accusers? Did the technology even exist in 2000?
Actually, Tom Brady is on the way…
I thought it was well done. **I think it shows the passion it takes to make it at that level and he has it. He pushed people out of his way to get to the top like so many other champions have. He’s a prick and that seems to happen a lot at the top. **
Interestingly, the two top drugs they used don’t have a big role in developing cancer. That part I think was just bad luck.
It is worth the watch. I thought (for Lance) that he was relatively humble and revealing.
Certainly it takes huge desire and passion to get to the top in any sport, but I don’t think it is necessary to “push people out of the way” (unless we’re talking football, soccer, lacrosse, etc) or to be a “prick” to become a champion. Obv diff sports but AFAIK most of the top swimmers, including Phelps, are nice guys/girls. Similarly, most top tennis players are pretty nice people. McEnroe was a bit of a douche but mostly this was to umpires and linesmen/women. ![]()

Faith in the face of evidence is a common enough phenomenon. Just look around.
Yeah. Guys like Levi, Danielson, probably Hamilton were doping before they even made it to Europe, just to beat up on domestic pros.
Juliet Macur, who wrote the following book about Armstrong, was doing fact checking on Lance’s Truth. Her twitter feed has lots of interesting backstory about Lance.

As I surmised in my post above, that Lance winning 1993 Worlds without epo, would not be possible against a peloton on epo…
Juliet wrote on Twitter last night:
John Hendershot, a soigneur on the Motorola team, told me that by 1993, Lance Armstrong was using EPO and other substances like growth hormone, amphetamines, blood thinners and testosterone. So Lance is off with his timing here. #30For30

Previously he had stated (Oprah, or somewhere else, but it is writing somewhere) that he had raced cleaned until 1995 when they got massacred at the Milan San Remo (Jalabert won IIIRC), and the team collectively decide to hit the juice, never bought it. He might have started when he was 16 as far as we are concerned, only he knows the real truth.
Never been a fan of the guy, but might watch it just out of morbid curiosity.
I’d have to go back and check Hamilton’s book where it’s been a while since I’ve read it, but if I remember right he said that he started when he was with Montgomery. He also explained in the book how they got around the constant testing, and also tells of a tester showing up at his home for a surprise test and he and his then wife hiding in a closet until the guy left to make it appear that no one was home. He also explains how Lance tried to silence him and treated him like dirt when he was getting ready to come clean.
Edit to add I went back and checked, his second year with Postal. He says in the book for most cyclists, it started in their third year of racing pro where the first year you are a hungry pup excited about being there, the second year is realizing that everything isn’t on the level, and the third is going along to stay in the game.
I don’t know. I mostly have exposure to pro Football and Basketball players. Most thrive on the desire to not beat, but destroy anyone in their way.
As Lance said last night (slightly paraphrased since I can’t find an exact transcription at the moment) : “I would make up enemies just to go harder”.
Some people are just that way.
I don’t like them.
Ran on ESPN this evening. What did everyone think, so far?
Him and our sitting president are much similar than i had previously thought.

hate to admit it but that same thought went through my head as well. At least Lance is not morbidly obese.
Love Lance…Win at all costs!!!

ha - i was going to say the same thing - the intro was pretty brutal.
i also found a lot of similarities between Lance and MJ - i thought i was watching a continuation of The Last Dance documentary. i don’t understand why this guy still gets so much hate. yeah - he was an asshole, yeah - he would sacrifice any human being to win, but this is pretty typical of those 1% of 1% elite athletes. it’s a doper sport, always has been. i suppose no one these days is getting angry at body builders are they?
I wanna know about his triathlon comeback.
Let’s hear about what Messick and Riccitello knew.
I still think he blood doped before 70.3 Hawaii too.
