Lance Interview on OLN

did anyone happen to catch lance being interviewed on OLN (by phil and paul) last night? reviews?

Musta been a US only broadcast…dammit…nothing doing up here in Canada…fricken snicken pieces of… bet we get lousy coverage for the Tour next yr too.

I saw it…thought it was pretty good.

Spot

entertaining. he wasn’t wearing any shoes. very similar to the charlie rose interview the night before.

i have it on tape (cuz I couldn’t watch it live), if any wants it.

Do you guys want specific highlights, or would that spoil it. I thought there were some very interesting comments about some of the more memorable events in the past 7 tours.

IMO spoil away…

Lance who?

thought it was interesting - ya the no shose thing seemed different

No prediction on next years tour winner and no specific support of who would be ‘the man’ on team Discovery next year - sounded to me like he was already playing the ‘owner’ role with Discovery

And I know I’m going to get hammered on this one - but in an odd way after the interview I felt like he was leaving the door open the smallest of cracks for a come back.

Really? I didn’t think that at all, but I did come away with the impression that he was going to be more invovled in the cycling world and in Discovery than I expected. He did mention a few things that he wished he had been able to accomplish during his cycling career, and I have a suspicion that those things are already eating at him…

"entertaining. he wasn’t wearing any shoes. very similar to the charlie rose interview the night before. "

Really? How could you tell he wasn’t wearing shoes during the Charlie Rose interview? Wasn’t that a radio show?

I think he’s in a tough position. He could race classics or whatever he wanted, he loves the sport, he could compete and win, but he’s put himself in this position of being retired. I’ll bet the next year will be a tough adjustment after the fun of retirement fades away.

And I know I’m going to get hammered on this one - but in an odd way after the interview I felt like he was leaving the door open the smallest of cracks for a come back.

You know I thought the same thing but it may just be what I wanted to hear. Two things he said that got me to thinking. One is he has never won Mount Ventoux and made reference to that. The other was at the end he said to Phil "I’ll see you in 2007. Again its probably not a big deal but would be interesting.

it was nothing specific nor any set of words I can point to

but in y gut I just felt this guy was sitting there enjoying on the outside being able to say I’m retired - but in side not totally sure - to project the feeling that he can still win races (probably true)

he has to be a bit nervous about going from the high intensity/thrill of beign a big time ridder to a guy laying onthe beach and playing with the kids. For someone like Lance I can’t imagine that the "retire - laid back stay at home dad’ life style is going ot be satasfying (sp) - I don’t questions that he loves his kids and want to spend more time with them - but I just don’t buy the line that this is what he wants a large portion of his life to be like for the next 50 years.

he still has the tools to do some great racing - but from teh interview he also seems to know that his physical abilities are on the decline - if he is to race any more it needs to be inthe next couple years

just won’t surprise me to see him come out of retirement

Yeah, it did make me pause when he said “see you in 2007.” i know he said it as a joke to close the interview since they were talking about the future and about comebacks, but it’s said that there is always a hidden element of truth in people’s jokes…

i thought it was cool that he said Jan agreed to come to his retirement party after the Tour and to give a toast there, in English, in front of everyone. Lance had a lot of nice things to say about Jan.

I thought one of the best parts of the interview was when he explained that “The Look” really wasn’t a “look” at Jan at all. He was simply assessing the situation behind him, not saying to Jan, “Are you coming?” Phil told him how the viewers had voted that the #1 “moment” in Lance’s Tour life, and he went on to explain how he wasn’t even looking at Jan.

I thought the interview was great. Paul and Phil seem to be such nice guys. And Lance looked hot.

He looks like a nice guy, i my self would feel like a God (not the GOD, but one of them), i hope he comes back in 2007 wins another one and then becomes a monk or a big belly Harley biker.

funny guy. charlie rose is on PBS. and lance obviously wasn’t wearing pants. i dont know about shoes.

Can someone list these exactly? Thanks.

winning on mont vontoux (spelling?) was the biggest one that was mentioned more than once
