Lance Armstrong's Athletic Goals for 2008

From Carmichael Training Systems news letter:
"…I’ll give you some examples of effective goals, straight from Lance Armstrong. He emailed his list about a week ago, and though he says he has three goals for 2008, I told him only two of them count so far:

  1. Run the Boston Marathon in 2:45:00 on April 21, 2008.
  2. Run the New York City Marathon in 2:30:00 on November 2, 2008.
  3. Complete an ultra-endurance cycling event.
    …"

Pretty impressive goals, but no Triathlon on the horizon,

2:45 to 2:30? That’s quite a drop over the summer. Looks like he wants to become a runner now. For a 2:30 performance I am guessing he will need to shed even more weight.

I just read in Inside Triathlon that he was gonna take a stab at Ironman this year. Maybe not?

Bob Babbitt says that after Lance retired from cycling, Bob sent him an email asked him if he’d be doing Ironman. Lance’s reply: “112 mile time trial in 100 degree heat? No f’in’ way!”

If Lance is able to run a 2:30 injury free and compete in a long bike race at anywhere near previous levels, what are his chances of winning Kona, cause we all know swimming comes back the easiest? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t think he could run 2:30 by November w/o hurting himself, nor would I be surprised if he did. I’m sure there are plenty of opinions on Lance’s goals.

Better living through chemistry. Anything is possible.

It would be cool to see him do the 508.

I fhe is really running very low volume then this should be do-able for him. Increase the miles, and show up at race weight and he should be very close. Third year of running for him and there are usually some really good gains about that time.

Put me in the list of people saying there is not a chance that he can place high in Kona.

Did they speculate what type of ultra-endurance cycling event he might like to do? FC508 or something similar?

2:30 would be fast for him. It will be interesting to see if he can do it…

put me in the same column, with one important qualification:

no way he can place high (i.e., podium finish) without ‘artificial assistance’, that would be the kind generously used by USPS and Disco teams during the TdF.

Perhaps the “ultra endurance cycling event” will be the Tour of America? LOL

  1. Boston: no big deal

  2. NY: yeah, drugs

  3. Leadville 100

Wow–pretty amazing all these ST’ers have been graced with the details of Lance’s purported drug usage! What gives you the right to drag his name through the mud? What real info do you have? If I were him I’d sue your ass–get a life and move to France you losers!

They are just stating their opinions that they think Lance was probably dirty during some of his Tour de France runs. No big deal.

They were hardly qualifying them as opinions. One even was specific that the team was involved in providing them. There is a difference between “Bob used drugs” and “I’m amazed at how fast Bob improved, I wonder if he is doing it ethically.”

Styrrell

Not saying it’s right, but we (‘we’ as in many of us) jump to conclusions like this all the time. It’s beyond the point, of course, but I think Lance was doping at some point(s) in his career. Of course, I have no proof of this.

actually it is a big deal. they would likely be found liable for defamation of character/libel. they should consider taking the posts down for their own good as well as Dan Empfield’s.

Folks who talk like this are just jealous!!! The only folks who I have seen talk like this are, and never
have been great in anything. So, they think tearing others apart make them a man.
