When are we going to see it???
The best interviews are the Tibbs’ right here.
When are we going to see it???
You may see it sooner than you think. People think that Lance is this far away distant figure - he’s a lot closer and a lot closer to the sport of triathlon than people think. He maintains a close relationship with a number of key people in the sport - Jimmy Riccitello and Brad Kerns to name two. Lance frequently consults John Cobb on bike fit and I see that John is now a regular contributor here as well. As well Vince Rosetta who is an ST regular, is the new Store Manager at Lance’s Mellow’s Johhny’s shop in Austin. I am sure there are other connections as well.
My guess is that their is a 50/50 chance that he may even lurk here. People that diss him would be wise to be careful of what they say.
Heck, even yours truly has a connection with LA - I shared a beer with him while sitting at a table at the Bermuda Triathlon post race party back in the late '80’s( Although my guess is LA remembers little of this!!). We were all bugging him at the table that they were going to come around and check his ID - Lance was still under-age , but still beating some of the best triathletes in the world at the time!!
…My guess is that their is a 50/50 chance that he may even lurk here. People that diss him would be wise to be careful of what they say…
We’re entitled to our opinions. I think he doped. But given that I think the entire peloton doped during his era (is it over?), it’s not like I would hold it against him. I’ve raised thousands of dollars for his foundation and charities, and LAF has been instrumental in helping my brother-in-law and our family deal with cancer this year. I am grateful. Why should anyone be “careful” what we say? Do you think he’s going to go after us? I’ll bet he’s got better things to do. He is a complex person, and has character flaws like the rest of us. He is a public figure, so he will always be subjected to scrutiny beyond what any of us will have to endure. I’m sure he’s okay with it. I look forward to his first Giro, and to the Tour Down Under. I wish he hadn’t gone after Simeoni, but then that’s how OMERTA works. It’s like the mafia, and LA was le patron. I wish he hadn’t associated with Michele Ferrari, because he’s guilty by association (along with Carmichael who suspiciously avoided negative publicity after the 1984 Olympics cycling doping scandal). Almost everyone around him has either been found guilty of doping or admitted it (some tacitly). Why would anyone think he didn’t dope other than a disbelief of false negatives? He is very lucky to have avoided losing a lawsuit with SCA. I don’t think people are so naive that they buy into the myth of a drug-free Armstrong so much anymore. But so what? He won the “race within the race”. He never got caught. Personally, I think his undisclosed likely very large “donation” to the UCI was one big payoff. And the UCI said the six positive urine samples from 1999 were not an issue for the UCI due to incorrect procedure, and that there was “nothing they could do”. But ASO is not so sure. We were promised a free and open drug-testing protocol with Don Catlin by January. It’s January. Not the end of January, but time is running out. It would be very easy to use drugs in the off-season, when testing is far less than in-season, boost your baseline values, and then start an “open book” protocol with Catlin who will simply find numbers that don’t seem abnormal. We’ll see if the promise is kept. Lots of people believe it will not be. In the end, it’s water under the bridge. Hopefully he won’t test positive this year. Gene doping’s already here, though, so fat chance of that. Hey, if you’re listening, Lance, I admire you. I respect you. I think you doped, but don’t take it personally. You’re a big boy, you can take it. “Everybody lies. I just didn’t know”. Now that I know, I’m not sure anyone could win a GT without the dope, anyway. I liked Jacques Anquetil, too. He doped when it wasn’t considered cheating. So… what’s the difference if the peloton has its own rules (OMERTA)? Good luck in your comeback. I hope you win the double this year (Giro-Tour). I think it’ll be a remake of 1986 Hinault-Lemond come July, only this time Lemond ain’t winning. Contador will survive it, though… I hope you do too.
Why? Is he going to come beat me up if I diss him? Is his buddy W going to have me picked up and shipped to Gitmo?
I don’t care if he lurks here or not; if I want to diss him I will. And I think the guy’s a wanker regardless of the doping question. He’s a freakish athlete, probably the second greatest cyclist of all time, but everything I read about him tells me that on a personal level he’s pretty much a dick.
Okay Lance, come get me.
Dear Lance,
If you are lurking here, I think you’re a kook. I do however want to know what Kate Hudson smelled like and how Sheryl looked naked.
So if you are lurking here, please create an account and write a response.
Thank you.
In all seriousness what questions do you want asked?
I am going to be staying at the Hilton in Adelaide for the tour down under and you just never know I may run into him.
I’m sure he’d be up for a few questions.
?

Tubulars or clinchers?
I love when people talk like this. Other than the fact that Lance will one day return to triathlon in some form you have no idea what you are talking about. As I have pointed out previously, my college roommate carries the guys bags, and we have a laugh anytime someone brings this up.
Very well said. I fully agree.
Lance replied to one of my comments on Twitter…i did a screensave too!!! wooooooo LA in '09…er '12 also!
Heck, even yours truly has a connection with LA - I shared a beer with him while sitting at a table
oh man, can we start a round of “6 degrees of Lance Armstrong” on ST?
Crap, you are already leading and possible win with a “1”.
Now you can only be beaten by Lance himself. ID required!
Paul

Maybe, maybe not.
I do know that I sat right next to a young Lance Armstrong once and bugged him for a laugh as to where his ID was when we were having a beer.
I also know and like athletes like Armstrong - they get it that it’s more than just sport. It’s also theater and it’s entertainment. My sense is that Lance knows this and he plays that side of the game very well. Beyond being a great athlete, he’s always been a great interview. I like that in an athlete.
well, you are a kook, you must be Lance.
So what did Sheryl look like naked Lance?
My 1-degree story is so much cooler than yours ;^)

I’ll play that game. I did a TT in October and finished 2nd to Lance (in AG). I’ve got my name listed on the results right underneath his and got a picture in cyclingnews with Lance passing me and my name in the caption. We’re like brothers now.
That’s wonderful that you shared a moment with Lance.
Bike racing is a soap opera. It’s theater, and Lance knows how to place his part in the drama. He’s also a celebrity and he knows how to keep himself relevant, but recognize the guy is a pro athlete, the face of a charity/movement and a celebrity. The notion that he is on Slowtwitch lurking and people should be careful about what they say about him, is simply a manifestation of the insecurity of the triathlete population. Next time you see Jimmy, asking when the last time Lance gave him a call just to chat.
My 1-degree story is so much cooler than yours ;^)

Agreed. Yours is much better!

How about this. Lets just not say horrible things about anyone. How about we refrain from calling people “fucking stupid” or “asshole” or judging people that we have never met. Think we can handle that? How about not calling a group of people insecure because they take part in a sport.
Also, on a public message board, you do need to watch what you say, because you can be held legally responsible for it. And just to be clear, as it seems that people take a lot of things out of context, if you call lance a liar and a stupidhead, you’re not going to have the police knocking on your door. However, if you make statements like “lance is taking drugs and I have proof” chances are slim, but you might get a call from a lawyer about it.
I don’t care if Lance lurks here. Even though I know for a FACT that he has. Bottom line is, who cares? I dont have an opinion about lance as I’ve never met him. I dont think about lance any deeper than I do about the Tour de France. He’s a source of entertainment, at worst. An inspiration at best, and a million things to a million people in between.
What I do care about is people being civil to each other. I’ve grown very tired of posters mouthing off like grade school bullies. I was called a “fucking moron” by a school teacher a few weeks ago because I made a joke about myself because I misspelled a word. Is that the example we want set for our children?
it seems that the issue of this man who rides a bike for a living, brings out the worst in people. So why don’t we all take a step out from under our opinions for a minute and be nice, not just to Lance, but to each other.
