Lake Placid - Sag wagon communications

We’re going to be taking a training group back to Placid this spring. I was wondering how other groups handle communications while riding. I’d like the riders to be able to communicate with the support vehicle but I’m aware that cell reception can be dodgy. Any help on this subject would be appreciated. How do you do it?

Your best bet in that part of the world is a Tracfone which will hit whatever’s available. Not sure if the mid-range walkie talkies work, having never tried them. I climb a lot throughout the high peaks, and in my experience it’s hit and miss (mostly miss) descending into Keene, and between Jay and Wilmington - including the out and back. If all else fails, just pack some strike anywhere matches and send smoke signals.

A satellite phone is one option. They can be rented. A google search will give you alternatives. They are relatively expensive.
