Consider doing IM Lake Placid next year. As we would go with our approx 5 month new-born then to visit my wife’s family I don’t want the hassle of also carrying or shipping a bike. Anyone has perhaps experience with renting bikes and even triathlon bikes in the area for the Ironman?

Try Planet Placid or High Peaks Cyclery. I have rented road bikes from the latter in the past, not sure about tri bikes, but worth an ask.

I rented a road bike from Placid Planet a couple weeks ago. Happened to be up near there race week so I did a loop. Techs and employees were cool. Shop seems top notch. Manager wasn’t super nice but it was race week, so I’d imagine temps are high.

Rent with us. What separates us from the others is that we are the official shop of Ironman, we fit you on the bike at expo on the trainer, we install all your accessories. When you finish the bike course and start running, we go into transition and remove all your personal belongings, put in a bag along with your other items and you dont have to worry about returning a bike. We also go to all the US races excluding Augusta, GA Wilmington, NC and Hawaii.

Eventually did a 180 and opted for a airplane Scicion travel bag, hoping I can do Lake Placid every other year when we visit Vermont (and perhaps Lanzarote one of these days). Clearly an investment but alas.
