Where is the best place to fly into for IMLP?
BTV Burlington,Vt. Easy car rental site, cross the lake at Grand Isle(ferry) or Burlington to Port Kent (ferry) and to the south the Essex ferry then its a easy drive into LP ,approx. 1.5hr.
My wife always flies into Albany which is a 2 1/2 hour drive. You drive the Keane ascent(reverse bike course) into LP.
Personally I always drive, because I can bring all my crap and you have to rent a car anyway.
I had issues with flights last year and had to end up coming into Montreal. Rented a car there and drive back into the use. 2hr trip. Hassle free and a nice scenic drive. I would do it again. Montreal is real easy to get in and out of.
From where?
I actually picked a friend up at Saranac Lake airport once…I was surprised that he could do it.
He came in on a connecting flight from Boston and originating in Pittsburgh. Maybe worth a check.
Otherwise, family has flown in to Albany.

You are about the same milage as me. I have flown, and now prefer to drive. I can take everything and anything in the car, and then some. It is about 14 hours total drive time from 90 mi west of Chicago.
When I flew this was my day…
- pack car, drive to Ohare - 1 hour ($200 +/- parking)
- hour or two in airport getting checked in, special check in for bike
- wait for plane, then fly to Detroit
- change planes in Detroit
- fly to Burlington VT.
- wait for all luggage in Burlington, rent a car.
- Drive to Lake Champlain and wait for the boat to bring us across the lake…another 2+ hours
- drive another two or so hours to Lake Placid.
return trip - do over.
