I head from Dallas to Denton regularly for court. Every time I pass over Lake Lewisville I think “I should have brought my googles.” Anyone familiar with SAFE OWS locations open to public on this lake?
Thanks in advance.

I’m a Lewisville local and have been in the lake with my family numerous times, for recreation. I’m yet to see a place I’d like to swim in for training. Maybe others can chime in.
Try Lake Grapevine just to the west. There’s a cove at Rockledge park where you can OWS. I’m pretty sure there are some tri groups that swim there during the summer months.
A lot of people swim near Pier 121 and Little Elm Park on Lake Lewisville. I have not.
I do a lot of my OWS at Sand Bass point at Lake Grapevine. I never see boats here but it’s usually early in the morning when I’ve swam there. Seems pretty safe to me aside from the fact that there probably won’t be many people around while you’re swimming.

ditto on Peir 121 … texas triple threat is one group that swims out there pretty regular. But if you are going I35 dallas-> Denton, I believe there are two parks one on the west side of the bridge that have roped off areas for swimming. Just can’t remember their names
We swim there fairly often. Copperas Cove park is a great place to swim right off of I-35. Nice beach area and a roped off area. The loop is approximately .25 of a mile. Sandbass point at Grapevine is good also, as mentioned above. I think Copperas Cove is actually safer though due to the roped off area. Hope this helps.
ever think about checking out Dallas Athletes? im not a member but have some family in that area that are and they have alot of group swims at grapevine lake (pretty sure thats where they go) i think its like 60 bucks a year or something cheap to join, they have a kayak out there with buoys, it pretty nice.
Is there a fee to get in Copperas Cove park? I work in farmer’s branch, and drive all the way to ray hubbard after work, but that sounds like it might be closer.
Is that in the city of Copperas Cove park? Looks pretty far from Dallas.
Its called Copperas Branch Park. Not the town of Copperas Cove. I think it is maintained by the city of Highland Village. I dont think that there is a fee to just swim but there is a boat fee. I swim at sand bass point as well, but this place is better.
No. Park up by the gate and walk down and their is no fee.
Thanks for all the input! I think the area you mention on I35 is the area I see everytime I go up there. I am headed again Monday so I will take my gear and give it a stroke or two.
Sc_Nick- I have looked into Dallas athletes but I live in oak cliff so grapevine would be a trek for me on a regular basis. I am lookin for a good swimming hole nearby and so far all I have found is the trinity…
Gorilla Multisport usually has an OWS at Copperas Branch Park on Friday evenings at 5:30. It’s unsupported but there is usually anywhere from 5-10 people on a typical Friday. As others mentioned, the bouys you see from the freeway are roughly a quarter mile round trip and you can park in the parking lot for free and walk down. The water is somewhat shallow along both ends of the buoys but does get deeper halfway across.
