I’m doing the race for the first time this year, and thought it was usually wetsuit legal. IM is saying to expect water temps in the low 80s. I’ve tried searching but does anyone know where I can find the lakes temp? I’ve done tri’s in FL in late March and thought for sure it’d be legal
I’d expect it to be wetsuit legal this year. I swim in a lake that’s not too far away and about 1/3 the size and our water temperature was 65 on Saturday. IMO, it would really have to heat up over the next five weeks to get a larger lake above 78.
Edit: The below link is for Lake Butler which is much much larger but also fairly shallow. Current estimated temperature is 62f:

Edit 2: You can look at historical water temperatures for March and September by downloading the excel file at the link below. Quite a range for the beginning of March: ~62-68f. The years where it was at the lower end of that range it was typically 82-84f by September. Given the brutal heat of May, June, July, and August, I think it’s more than reasonable to assume that during those years in early April the lake was sub 78f. With that said, Lake Eva is much more shallow than I would’ve guessed with a mean depth of 5’!!! As such, it will be more prone to temperature swings.
Thanks, that’s about what I expected. I’m just a few hours north in FL, and couldn’t imagine it being non wetsuit with the winter we’ve had. Seems the website for the race is still giving generic information from when the race was in May
