Anyone use their regular oven to heat mold Lake cx401 shoes? Just got a pair on a screaming deal, but no info on how to mold them. Google produces differing info from 300 ovens to 180 ovens and times are all over the board.
Any ideas or assistance is greatly appreciated. Don’t want to “melt” them and wreck my shoes or the wife’s oven
Thanks
300 should be WAY too hot.
I have hockey skates that are moldable and they go in at 180. Hockey boots are much thicker than cycling shoes so you wouldn’t want to go any hotter than that. The shoes should come with instructions on how to do it though.
For the skates, the oven get heated to 180 and then turned off when the skates go in so there is no direct heat on them. Skates heat for 5-8 min. Shoes might go a little less, but that’s your call, I’m not making any suggestions. The skates should not be walked in. This is probably a good idea for the shoes too, since the sole is warm, I could see all kinds of bending problems.
again, this is skate related info, so ymmv for shoes. But 300 is definitely too hot. You’d never be able to put them on if they didn’t catch on fire or melt into a puddle first.
when you’re done, tell your wife, “this is the best thing to come out of that oven in a LONG time”. ; )
good luck

I have Bont shoes and they recommend 160 F/70C for heat molding their shoes
.
Here’s the link to Bont if it’s any help:

Missed that article some how.
Thanks- job for the weekend now
Appreciate all the info
Don’t want to “melt” them and wreck my shoes or the wife’s ovenI think you should be equally worried about serious burns to the feet trying to put on shoes fresh out of a 300-degree oven!

Bont and Lake both use Thermoresin instead of Thermoplastic like Shimano, so molding temp is way lower.
