I was wondering if anyone out there experiences extreme lactic acid build up in their legs with minimal to moderate exercise? I think I must produce more than the average person. My legs always seem to burn very early on in a run/bike or even kicking off the wall from a flip turn in the pool. I can guarantee I’m not overtrained. I normally have to stop lower body weight lifting early in the race season because my legs get so heavy and tired. When I do lift it’s just once a week and not very heavy weights. I can walk a flight of stairs and feel the burn minimally. I must admit I rarely stretch and am wondering if this could help.
Thanks in advance for the advice.
Put on any new meds recently? Specifically any cholesterol lowering meds? Have you had an actual blood lactate sample taken before (finger prick)?
No. This has been going on it seems forever. Perhaps other people’s legs burn too but they just don’t vocalize as I do.
I’ve started doing Yoga once weekly so perhaps that and stretching may help.
“I’ve started doing Yoga once weekly so perhaps that and stretching may help”
Why would yoga and stretching help?
If I’m running or cycling slow or without climbing then I don’t usually experience the burning. It’s when I start to climb that it happens. When I’m climbing and it burns I’ll slow down to almost a walk and it does ease off but I’d like to continue running/cycling at a faster pace and NOT experience it.
I was thinking that YOGA and stretching might help flush out some of the acid. After reading the blog on stretching I’m not so sure.
Thanks for your reply.
It seems I’m forced to slow down. I try riding/running through it but run out of steam.
Maybe I just ride with people that are too fast for me. It certainly happens when I ride
with a slower person but of course it’s less burdensome then.
Sorry to sound vague but I guess so. I do know that I experience the same feeling only much worse when I’m doing a flip turn in the pool when I have very little breath left during a hard swim.
Maybe lack of O2?
