Lactate Testing

Warning - newbie question. After guessing at my thesholds for the last year I decided to do the test. Scheduled with a local university, stopped training for a day, and tried to hyrdrate a little more than usual. They checked my blood when I arrived and the lactate level was 3.5 - 2 more checks came in at 2.5 and another 3.5. Tester was a little dismayed and said that the level had to be below 2.0 to do the test. She thought the most likely cause of this condition was chronic dehydration. Any experience with this? Shouldn’t I feel it?

Three consecutive tests when you arrived (and rested)?
And the results were 3.5, 2.5 and 3.5 mmol?

I hope you didn’t have to pay for that random number generator…

Spend your money on a power meter instead - and/or go to the track/pool every month or two and try to beat your 5k/10k/2000m/2000yd record. Instant feedback and good pacing exercise. Have fun!

Most likely equipment malfunction. The good ol’ Accusport would give out high readings when you used strips that were past the expiration date.

dehydration is a possibility, as is tester / equipment error and other factors.

Did they test you as soon as you walked in or after a warm up?

If when you walked in, the values may decrease after a warm up

If after a warm up, the warm up may have no been appropriate.

Or. there is something odd with you.

If you’re near Boulder, send me a PM.

Who is “they”?
