Kurt Kinetic Road Machine 1 vs 2

Looking to buy a KK Road machine.

The old version is $290 and the new one is $350…is it worth the extra $60?

I have to buy online and import as I cant get one in South Africa so I can’t go and have a look at them in the flesh.

Go with the cheaper one. There is no difference worth $60

Thanks man.

I was leaning that way…$60 can be put towards QR skewer, training mat, fan, etc.

No worries, you are gona like the KK. It is the only way to go. I have 2 of them and they are bombproof and quiet.

$60 can be put towards QR skewerMy KK came with a trainer skewer.

I think they normally do but per the Amazon site its not included
.

I can’t vary the resistance on the cycleops unless I change gears.

It’s the same way with most (all?) fluid trainers, including the Kurt Kinetic Road Machine (both new and old versions). There’s no reason that the speed-to-effort ratio on a trainer has to align at all with outdoor riding, and being able to change resistance just by switching gears sure is convenient, isn’t it?

Hey TriNewb, I am looking to buy a KKRM as well. Where are you finding them at that price? Thanks in advance.

Have had both. Zero difference. Go cheap route.

I just bought one off of Amazon and the QR skewer was in there. I would imagine since it boxed up, the skewer would be included regardless of where you purchase it.

Saw them on Amazon for that price.

So bad news is that courier fees and sales taxes means that it just doesnt make sense to get the KK Roadmachine.

Landed in SA I’m looking at around $450 (possibly even more if they decide to slap some additional import duties on it) and I can get a Fluid 2 for $350.

So then it looks like Fluid 2 it is. I can get a Fluid Pro too but based on what I’ve seen on ST best to just stick with the 2.

just bought the KKRM 2.0 for $280 plus tax shipped.

I have an old cycleops fluid 2 trainer. I am looking to pick up a new trainer and give the old one to my wife who only would use it once a week. Would a new kk road machine be an upgrade over an old cycleops fluid? I can’t vary the resistance on the cycleops unless I change gears.

Coming from a guy who went from a fluid 2 to a rock and roll last week, YES. The road machine (which is the heart of the rock and roll) is a superior trainer IMO. Quieter and smoother.

Thanks - too late for me though, bought the Fluid 2 in Dec…loving it in combination with Trainerroad
.

hi, any clue where did u get the KKRM 2.0 for 280? Thanks.

Lucas

I bought version 1, and it wasn’t level. Returned it and was given the new version as a replacement. Great trainer, and the un-levelness probably was just bad luck.
