Kristi Noem, hard at work

…making an informercial for a dental clinic…in Sugar Land, Texas.

Gotta love the comments (“Kristi’s dentist deserves a plaque for going where Corey Lewandowski has been”, “Is that the same practice that fucked up your lips, cheek bones, judgment, and morals?”).

I’m sure the dental associations in South Dakota are thrilled their governor is doing commercials for a dentist 1,200 miles away in a different state.

Also, you’re a dentist so why label yourself a MAGA douche? To riff off Michael Jordan: Democrats need dental care too.

Is it true the state tree of south dakota is a tv antenna?

I did a google search and I didn’t get anything about her having a bicycle accident, or having here teeth repaired.

Maybe, as a potential Trump VP candidate, she’s just testing out her lying skills.

Sugar Land sounds like a good place for a dental clinic.

I don’t really see the issue. Doctors serve patients, and should do so regardless of politics. And patients seek out the best care they can find and afford, and shouldn’t worry about political fallback from doctors in their home states.

So besides the point.

Ahhh, so the point is just the shaming of people for sport. Got it.

You are smarter than that. The main point is that a sitting Governor is shilling for a commercial enterprise, and all the issues that may arise from that. The next point might be that a sitting Governor is shilling for a commercial enterprise that is in a different state, and the optics of that.

The sitting governor of South Dakota has no influence, through the scope of her job, on rules, regulations, or laws pertaining to a business she patronizes or offers testimonials for, in TX. I’m interested in what “issues” you think are problematic, since you seem to think it’s so obvious, but no one seems to have actually explained them.

The optic of a governor offering testimonial for a business in another state is a political consideration, maybe. As I said, you go get medical treatment wherever you can get the best treatment you can afford.

Is it a little weird? Sure. Is it a dental firm tying themselves to MAGA or a dentist self-labeling as a “MAGA douche?” I don’t really see how.

Huh??? You can’t be serious with that statement.

Why would you choose a polarizing political figure to do a (likely) paid endorsement for your business? Is she as polarizing as MTG or Boebert? No, but she isn’t far off. It’s a dog whistle. Pure and simple. Or the dentist is a real buffoon and doesn’t understand the optics.

…or understands the optics perfectly well and sees an upside (it is TX after all).

There is precedent. Last year President Camacho traveled from the future to pitch colonoscopies.

You’re reading way too much into this.

She’s a beautiful and famous woman. If she received care in this clinic, and was willing to talk about her experience, it’s marketing gold, regardless of politics. She’s likely the most famous person the dentist would have ever worked on, and the fact that she’s gorgeous makes it all the better for his marketing.

The dentists of South Dakota might be the only ones with a legitimate reason to be “butt hurt”.

ETA: I’d have the exact same opinion if it were AOC doing the same ad/testimonial.

I’m not sure you understand what a dog whistle is, in this context. A dog whistle is coded or suggestive language or messaging from a politician, designed to get support from a controversial group without overtly courting them, so as to avoid criticism. I don’t think that applies to a dentist getting testimonial from a satisfied client, no matter who she is.

The dentist she went to advertises on their site that they’re the official dentist of the Miss Texas pageant, and they have a picture of Gov Neom in with all their other patient pictures, with no mention of her occupation, and no highlighting of her as special in any particular way. I doubt very much that they have to try real hard to advertise to conservatives, much less MAGA specifically.

I didn’t mean she was doing the whistling. The dentist was. Maybe dog whistle wasn’t the proper term in that refers to politicians doing it but whatever the civilian version is.

To me he’s hanging a shingle out there. No different than some gun store having a Let’s Go Brandon sign hanging in their window. They’re catering specifically to a certain clientele in this instance. IMO.

There might not be a mention of her occupation in that picture but it’s pretty much the first thing she says in the commercial.

Maybe I’m reading this wrong but when you pick someone like her to endorse your product I have a hard time believing it wasn’t calculated.

Dentists need to generate enough income for new Shivs & Giro TT helmets ya know.

I’m sure it’s calculated, like any other endorsement from a famous person. Are you seriously of the opinion that this dental office is specifically trying to court the dental needs of MAGA extremists? Do MAGA extremists have some sort of especially lucrative and specific set of dental needs?
