Krispy Kreme's

Just had my 2nd glazed doughnut… yum…

Do I hear a 3rd calling my name?

<<Do I hear a 3rd calling my name?>>

If you’re in the 35-39 Age Group–go right ahead

Brett.

The donuts aren’t the only thing loaded with fat. Have you seen their stock price? I don’t care what their sales increase was, the price of the stock is overvalued. Personally, I think they taste great but I can’t eat those things. I would get fat instantly. They taste great, but I need to stay away from them.

From the Krispy Kreme website (you can download the nutrional info)

ORIGINAL GLAZED

Calories 200 / Calories from Fat: 110

Total Fat: 12g (saturated 3g)
Cholesterol: 5mg
Sodium: 95mg
Total Carbohydrates; 22g (Sugars 10g)
Protein: 2g

So if you eat the one they give you when you walk in the store - BAM, that’s 200 calories right off the bat and you haven’t even ordered the dozen yet!!!

The biggest offender - the Chocolate Malted Kreme (390 cals / 190 from Fat calories). OUCH!

Tom, here is your challenge.

You have seen the calorie / fat from the previous post.

I have eaten 2 glazed doughnuts - do the math and figure out how much weight I have gained from eating these godsends and sell me a replacement ‘something’ for my KM40 (HED Alps front & 3 Spoke rear) that will reduce my total bike weight by the doughnut weight I just took in. I am in the 40-44 age group so I can afford the what your are selling… just don’t tell my wife.

If my math is correct…

400Kcals consumed

at

3500Kcals/lb bodyweight

you gained…

drumroll please…

1.8 oz

While donuts are by no means great for you, they have fewer calories on average than a bagel with no cream cheese. And the standard Krispy Kreme is the least offensive. The Dunkin’ Donuts glazed has almost twice what the same Krispy Kreme donut has.

The real killer is the DD muffin, though. They seem so nice and wholesome and yummy, but the DD bran raisin muffins is around 500 calories, over half from fat. That’s 1/4 total intake for a standard human for the day! And amazingly, they have practically no fiber in them. Holy crap! Or not.

I did extensive research for the chunky monkeys at work, and it was truly shocking to see how the donuts stacked up to some other, apparently less offensive foods.

Sunday is Krispy Kreme day at our house. After the wife and kids get home from church, I get off the Computrainer and we all head out to the happiest place on earth.

One Dozen, as:

6 Regular Glazed (one for the baby; one for the Mrs.; me and the boys fight over the rest)

3 Buttermilk Glazed (those are for me)

3 Chocolate Buttermilk (2 boys split those)

I’ve gone from 170 lbs June 1 to 158 lbs now, and heading lower. The Sunday Donut Diet works for me.

One pound of bacon–six “servings” by the way–cooked in a microwave equals 480 cals., 42 fat gms., and 15 saturated fat gms. So, 2.4 Krispy Kremes equals one pound of bacon in cals., and 3.5 Krispy Kremes equals one pound of bacon in fat gms.

My advice, one or two won’t hurt as long as allowed for in your diet plan, and may help your body replace some of the calories and fat (yes, you do need SOME fat) you burn after a workout or a race. So go for it, just don’t eat the whole box. Same thing as with the drinking thread, 1-2 per day is okay, just know how/when to stop.

“I would get fat instantly”.

C’mon Tom. You know as well as I do it’s just wood in the fire - IF you’re training regularly. And the fat could do you good. No biggie. I love them. 5’ 9", 148 lbs., optimal BMI and ripped to the bone.

You can eat doughnuts as long as they are the ones with holes (no bars or jelly/cream filled). This is because during the baking process all the calories collect in the center, then the center is removed to make the hole. Under no circumstances ever eat doughnut holes! The same principle can be applied to cookies. You can eat as many as you like if you break them in half first. This promotes calorie leakage.

Krispy Kreme…yum, made me the man I am today!!!

That is good…
