I’ve posted earlier last week and a lot of people said kreitlers. i was originally looking at inside ride only because i said Dave Mirra using them but price point I’m happier with this price point.
I have a set of these with the narrow, 2.25 diameter drums and while I don’t use them very often. They provide a nice workout as the smaller diameter rollers result in less inertia and while there was a time I could ride them with no hands on the bars, the last I laid them out and rode, it required a concentrated effort to maintain a smooth steady power output.
I’ve got the 3.0" Kreitlers, with aluminum end caps, no idea what my ftp as I don’t use power (I know, I’m a heretic). I can spin up on the 3" rollers without much effort and hold for a handful of minutes. My plan is once that becomes too easy I can add the fan which will increase the resistance, and provide more cooling. My research really pointed me to going with aluminum end caps as reviews and input from those i know that ride them all said the rollers last for years.
Pretty good deal; also the Kompact refers to the fact that the rollers can fold for storage (they make a non folding version too). You’re correct - the Hot Dog is the width of the roller, and would not recommend those if you’re new to rollers.
Wonderful I do suppose folding would def be w plus.
The standard frame also folds, I had one and traded for an Edge 800 bundle. The Standard frame will accommodate a wider range of wheelbases and they are both adjustable. The Standard frame also will accept either one or two Flywheel attachments where as the Kompact will not. I had a flywheel on mine and it not only added resistance, it also made it possible to stop pedaling and coast a bit without stopping and riding off the side. I would get a flywheel before a Headwind fan, especially if you’re thinking about the 3"rollers. My FTP was about 240 and I was using the 4.5" rollers but would have rather been on the 3" rollers.
Read this. BTW, it isn’t going to be easy riding a tri bike on the rollers. I don’t know what your wheel base is but I’d say guess either frame would work, I have a 52cm Felt B2 Pro. Rollers are hard to ride on. Look at some Youtube videos with guys riding on rollers. I could ride without any trouble on my road bike, but the tri bike was a completely different story. I ended up getting (and still have) the fork stand so I could spend time on my aerobars without crashing. Also, go on Kreitlers web page and check out the wattage chart. The flywheel allows you to ride at a slower wheel speed and still stay up. With the smaller diameter rollers, the faster you go (rear wheel speed) the higher the watts required to maintain the speed.
I know that a lot of the Kreitler have a consistent “power curve”.
Which mean you can get power data just with a speed sensor on your bike.

I’m Thinkint compact 2.25. And I can’t find my wheel base for either of my bikes.
You do own a ruler, though? Christ, it doesn’t matter anyway. You can adjust the position of the front drum as easy as anything. I move it for my tri bike vs. road bike. Even rode my mountain bike on them once but it was noisy and bumpy as all hell. But it fit. You are over-thinking this.
yes, get the smaller ones. You can still ride very easy and depending on your weight should be able to get close to 400w, which is plenty for what we do in the winter. There’s some types of workouts (i.e. 30-30’s) that work better on a fixed trainer or ergo.

If you’re the same weight as their tester, sure. When I asked about the difference in weight and tire pressure effecting power curves, they just pointed me back to the same chart. Great customer service, fellas.
I got the 2.5" Kreitlers. I’ve also added on the Killer Head Wind attachment. I used to ride my roadie on the rollers. The problem is that I simply don’t enjoy riding my road bike. I’ve since gotten the fork stand and ride my tri-bike all winter long with more resistance than I could possibly need yet I can gear down when I want easy.
