I need to rent a 7 (or preferably 8) passenger van Sept 30 - Oct 15. Have talked with Discount Vehicle Rentals Hawaii and they quoted me $860 (I’m guessing before tax) for those dates for a Dodge Caravan which seems to be the standard mid-size van option. Anyone have any dealings with this company? Any comments/suggestions on where to get the best rate? Thanks,

I can’t help on the specific question, but you may want to decide whether you want best or cheapest.
I heard someone once describe dealing with business this way “everyone wants cheap, fast, and quality. Pick one. If you get 2 out of 3, that’s fantastic. You never get all 3.”
Not sure of the best deal, but make sure they include all of the taxes and fees in the quotes. Rental cars usually have very high taxes
Also, look around for discounts and coupons. There are many, and you might be able to save on a long rental like that

check out Uhaul. You can rent a van for $20/day. You get charged mileage, but it might end up being cheaper depending on how much sight seeing you do.
Also try priceline and hilo for car rentals. usually cheaper over there. Of course you have to fly in/out of Hilo.

That quote does sound like before taxes - my mid-sized car for 13 days last october was around that $ amount when it was all said and done.
