Being in the US, I am restricted to outside tv for this weekends race. Ad’s and commericals on outside tv have been excessive to say the least. If I get a vpn and watch on another platform, are the commercials significantly less? Just trying to gauge whether getting a vpn is going to be worth it or not.
I’ve tried both. The VPN/Youtube option is a bit better.
Worst part is I have an Outside+ subscription. I didn’t pay for it and I definitely will not renew. Thanks for reminding me to remove my CC info
To which country should I set my VPN?
Literally anywhere but the US and Canada.
The fastest one outside U.S. and Canada (as you will be connecting through a server in that country). This will probably be the one geographically closest, but apps such as NordVPN have their own suggestions.
So I guess its a fair question whether Mexico or a random EU country would be fastest for someone in Canada, but its probably all the same anyway.
From Canada my VPN is set to Belgium, because I watch road racing from Belgium. It has alway been fine.
I guess that may vary by VPN provider since you are going through their “gateway”.
Brave has a 7 day free trial on their VPN. Never used the VPN before, but I use the browser Brave Premium
So is the consensus to get a vpn? I assume the race is YouTube for those outside the US and Mexico?
Is there anyway to get a vpn on my smart tv?
You can get vpn that runs on your router and everything connected to your router is VPN’d
Of course not all routers can do this, but the vpn provider usually has a list
The Opera browser has a free embedded VPN you can switch on. Just tried it on the stream of the women’s race; using chrome I was region-blocked, but with Opera VPN set to EU it streamed fine.
If you’re using your phone to watch through a VPN you probably need to disable your SIM otherwise YouTube knows you’re still in the US.
Not sure about Airplay but I couldn’t stream Nice to my tv through Chromecast : (
With no ability to pause/rewind an 8 hour race Outside isn’t great.
With the demise of eurosport, what service do you use to watch cycling?
I’ll second the VPN/YouTube combo. That’s slightly better than Outside TV
I use RTBF in Belgium but I am French speaking
If watching bon YouTube, what happens on your feed when Outside commercials would be playing? Is there silence, continued commentary, musical interlude, something else?
@Kid
The broadcast continues. Commentators commentate. It’s magical! (But, still a shitload of commercials, even on YouTube).
so you basically hear “Morten move” 33% more often ?
I see it’s also on DAZN but I don’t know for which regions and no idea what that means for ads.
I’m in Canada and have been able to watch all the WTC races for free on youtube and on Outside (yes without a subscription), and no VPN. Will it not be the same for Kona?
