Shawn - Nice pix…almost make me wanna replace my Adidas with Asics!
Do you happen to have any more of Bell’s front end? I’m scratching my head wondering where his pads are located. I’m assuming those are painted Carbon X’s, anybody?

What’s with Lori’s rear brake? I would think this was a less aero configuration unless she was going backward…
I think they were the new white carbon bars from Profile. Here’s a pic that shows the pads (barely). http://www.digitaltriathlon.com/evt-imgview.asp?id=105&offset=53 I don’t have anymore pictures. Our digital camera battery went dead before the leaders hit T2. I don’t think the brake on Lori’s bike was supposed to go underneath… Regardless, she really likes the bike a lot.

these shoe guys always trying to get you to buy thier shoes:) Shawn, is Arne training again? He was our rep out here in Hawaii and we used to go riding before he messed up his back again. My worst bonk ever was on a ride with him.
I figured Lori’s bike was a 700c frame with the rear brake mount just mounted a little lower to fit the 650. Maybe the tube shaping on the seat stays wouldn’t fit the brake on the top because of the 650 mod.
Arne is still around. He’s no longer involved in sports marketing and moved out of the cubicle ‘ghetto’. He got a nice office on the other side of the building, working as a sales manager. He is back on his bike, jogging a little and swimming. He swears he’ll be back in Kona for another go. He was there this year, but more on holiday with the Mrs.

There is nothing aero about that bike.
But the contrary can be said of the rider… Lori FLIES! ![]()
i wouldnt mind having a penalty for drafting Lori´s wheel ![]()

You all seem to ignore the real beauty in this thread - Luke Bell’s bike.

I was looking at that too. At first I thought it may be because the brake-mount-bracket thingy only ran flush to the underside of the stays… (from the first set of pics), but in a later set you can see it is flush with both sides - so that’s not it. But in the next shot that reveals that the mounting bracket runs flush with both sides of the stays, you can see why the brake is mounted as it is. The underside of the stay comes off the center of the wheel and runs perpendicular with the rim… while the top side is offset. Perhaps this offset sets up poor brake location where (1) the whole of the pads would not be on the rim and (2) not being perpendicular to the rim, creates some kind of torquing effect upon braking.
But, as mentioned, what I DO NOT get is the 4 - 5" space between the rear wheel. There can be no good reason for this. Is there a good reason for this? Tom? Bueller? Anyone?
The tube set is for a 700c bike and hers is a custom 650c.
