I know that rules for legal speedsuits after this season at IM sanctioned events are changing but are there a few definitive speedsuits that are legal? I am doing IM Louisville which is a nonwetsuit race so I am going to purchase a speedsuit for the race but in case I qualify for Kona I don’t want to then have to get another one 1 month later because the material was too thick or sleeves were too long. Thanks
Bump, just in case anyone missed the question over the weekend. Thanks
I think you may have answered your own question.
My understanding is the WTC is working on wording and a protocol for the new swim-wear rules for after Sept. 1. What we do know is that what is currently considered a “swim-skin” will not be allowed in WTC, Ironman and 70.3 races as of Sept 1.
Regarding what you will be allowed to wear exactly, in Hawaii, if you qualify, at this point is TBA.
My understanding is that swim skins, and the old temp rule, are allowed in the 2010 “season,” including 2010 Kona. All 2011 “season” races will not be allowed to wear speedsuits and have the new temp rule (76 degrees). This includes those races like IM florida that are in the 2010 calendar year but are really apart of the 2011 season because they qualify you for Kona 2011.
Is this correct?
Yes. That’s right( I think!) as the WTC for qualifying starts on Sept 1.
Wrong. Kona 2010 will not allow non-textile speedsuits.
Is there any clear definition yet?
And if “speed suits” are banned, what are people planning to wear?
As said above, you are wrong about Kona 2010.
