Agreed on the PRODUCTION value. I made the same comment to my wife when we saw it. Outstanding color and clarity.
As for the content… Just horrible. I’ve seen 4 or 5 now, I think. This was the weakest. It completely lacked drama, which could’ve easily been done with a more aggressive soundtrack and editing of footage. Very disappointing.
I wish they’d turn it over to me one year. I’d trim back the sad stories just a tad, add in some age grouper background so the audience could see a little of what it takes to get there. And then just mess with sound and order a bit. Way better.
I haven’t seen it yet (and live outside the US, so no NBC coverage). Did they have much coverage of Christine W during the bike (or pre-race, etc)? Can’t imagine there was much on her given that nature of her “surprise” victory.
Is the music different also? last years showdown music was great (mecca and norman on the run) but it was a dferent soundtrack on the DVD that killed it.
That has to be one of the most mortifying moments in the entire broadcast of the show. Just watching the terror creep into his eyes as he fights with his helmet buckle is awful. I can’t imagine what was going through his mind. Could you imagine, as a top pro with hundreds upon hundreds of hours of training, having to pull out due to a broken bike helmet strap?
I agree with cutting back a tad on the "sad stories " although the story of the young guy who was in the car accident was really inspiring I thought . With all due respect , I think they paid a bit too much attention to the 67 year old lady , although a huge congrats to her for finishing her age group.
I enjoyed the recorded banter between Macca and Normann though.
Anybody notice how they cut down the scene where McCormack was struggling with his helmet? It was much longer in the NBC broadcast.
I never saw the NBC telecast but counted 35 seconds from the time Macca touched his helmet until the time he manage d to touch his seat and start reeling his bike AND IT WAS CUT ? I totally appreciated his frustration as anyone would. Zach had a similiar situation about 10-12 years ago.
Nice hemet I would say though…perhaps Rudy Project should attempt to alter there buckles ?
