Knee Support for Runners Knee

Are any particular brand/type of braces better for Runners Knee. My 15yo son was diagnosed with it and doctor recommended a sleeve while recovering and doing PT. Any particular brands/models better. He does soccer in the fall (a Goal Keeper), so it’s more for conditioning for track in the winter/spring (400/800).

Bauerfeind makes great ones. German company. They are well designed. I had to use one post crash years ago for a few months training.

I’ve had Runner’s Knee several times and it hurts. I’ve tried various knee support devices but have never found one that really helps. For me, mine always disappears fairly quickly if I start doing squats and band work (to strengthen my glutes) again………proving it’s an imbalance issue rather than a structural one.

Don’t run on it. Use an elliptical to maintain some sort of running fitness and strength train.

I got patellar tendonitis last year. I’ve had good results taking a sled, literally a sled meant for sliding down a snowy hill, and loading it with old tires and weights and dragging it backwards around my yard. Good rope and thick leather work gloves help with blisters.

I’ve had luck with KT Tape. Mine wasn’t bad and used it for a few weeks leading up to my marathon before taking time off. And I know someone will jump on here calling Kt Tape junk and that’s fine but it did help. Maybe his PT could help putting it on but YouTube is handy too. And it’s cheap so if it doesn’t work not much cash wasted.
