Hello, what can cause knee pain after a session on bike trainer, no matter it is tt bike or road bike, same position indoor/ outdoor.
Last year after few weeks of zwifting my knee started to hurt heavily. I could barelly walk. Then I had i rest from bike for 1.5 moths. Few weeks later tried to ride outside - no pain. After another month or so I tried zwift again, pain cameback. This year I have 0 miles indoor, 1000 miles outdoor, no pain at all.
My guess is that bike trainer is more stationary and doesn’t have much flex as I have outdoor. Does anyone have same experience? I think maybe rocker plate like saris mp1 can help?
Thanks!
you’re locked into a position and cant move around as much.
i have a saris mp1. freaking love it. steep investment, but the way i see it if im going to be spending all that time indoors im going to do everything i can to be comfortable. i previously used a more traditional side-to-side rocker plate and moving to the saris, very noticeable improvement in comfort. its still nothing like being out on the road, but the fore/aft really made a difference.
get a good video of yourself from the front and see if your knee is moving side to side. then have a fitter fix it for you
Sometimes it’s related to low crank inertial load. Some riders are much more sensitive to CIL than others. Maybe you’re in that group. Rollers, for example, typically have low CIL. Trainers with a huge flywheel have more, and riding outdoors on the flat has a lot.
Mine gets aggravated with low cadence work on the trainer, I’ve come to realize.

^^^ This. The speed reduction that occurs over the top of the stroke can put more stress on the front of the knee. You can’t just coast through it like you can on the road. Raising the saddle would probably help.
I had a saddle sore issue happening on one side only and I struggled for months until I discover that my floor is not leveled and have 2 degree difference and after corrected and change my bike/trainer position it solved my issue.
Check your floor, just an idea!
