About two weeks ago I had a little twinge come up on the top inside corner of my knee cap. Figured it was still early enough in the season to take a couple weeks off, so that is what I did. Went for a run yesterday and the pain was still there. Anyone ever had a similar situation? I thought it may be tight groin/adductor so I spent a lot of time foam rolling/stretching that area in my time. Any thoughts?
Weak quads could also cause that type of knee pain. Its hard to say for certain because there could be some arthritis under the knee cap, etc… make sure your hamstrings, quads and adductors are all strong and stretched fully.
I had similar symptoms a few years back. It was a knee cap tracking issue because my outside quads were too tight with weaker inner quad? This caused the knee cap to track up and outward slightly causing inflammation under the cap. I foam rolled the quads a bunch along with inner leg strengthening.
Sounds pretty similar to me. I was swimming with fins in one of my first ever pool sessions and I felt a twinge. I took it easy for a couple weeks, but was pretty painful after short runs/bikes. I overcompensated for it on the treadmill and ended up getting achilles tendonitis. So I’d suggest seeing your Dr.
About two weeks of foam rolling the hell out of my achilles for 2 weeks (FML) it got better.
I’m about four months out of tweaking my knee and it definitely is still a bit tender on occasion, but not limiting.
Long story short. Its probably minor and needs recovery time, but I’m a bad example. You should probably go to a Dr.

Been there recently, generically in the form of runners knee. Caused by overuse and resolved with rest.
Found relief by careful selection of running surfaces. I could run pain free on a treadmill at a 1% grade, but could not run on pavement. Trails and a modern, soft, running track were also painless. All with Hoka Bondis. There was a time I could not run 1/4 mile on pavement, but ran 13 miles pain free on the track.
My doc prescribed a topical NSAID and my Chiro used kino tape to create a “bra” that supported the knee cap.
Good luck to you,
Scott

A good doc can help you out more but strengthening the quads can be a big help. Weak quads can pull the knee cap and cause real discomfort. People have had with knee braces as well which keep the knee cap in place when the leg is fatigued.
