Kinvara Pro

Anyone try these yet? I was just on the Saucony website and saw these for the first time. How do these compare to the Endorphin line up? They market them as a daily trainer with a carbon plate and PB foam. Seems like an overlap with the Speeds (minus the carbon plate)

No experience, but looks like a weird shoe. Mix of foams (both pwrrun and pwrrun PB foam). Also continues to the lack of a rubber outsole for the Kinvaras, so I wouldn’t expect a lot of miles. All for the low low price of $180!

I could see them wanting to do a zero or 4mm drop Endorphin line, but w/ an 8mm drop, it seems too close.

I got to try these vs the new Hoka Mach X vs the Kinvara 14

really liked them, probably the best shoe out of the 3. The Mach X was a nice feeling shoe, just there was something about the Kinvara Pro that I liked better. The Kinvara 14 is a bit tight around my foot. They did add some foam to the Kinvara for edition 14 vs 13 or did they add it in the 13 and carry it over for the 14. One of those 2, was only 3mm more foam iirc, stack height stayed the same.

The Shift is going to be a bit firmer and deeper. I really like how my foot sits in the shift fwiw.

The shoe feels different than the Speed. Not better not worse. I’ve not had anyone choose the Speeds over the Kinvara Pro or the kinvara pro over the speeds just yet. I have had people choose the Asics tri noosa over both those shoes.

with all shoes, ymmv.

In all fairness this just isn’t a kinvara pro or saucony thing. It’s a Hoka, Nike, Saucony, Asics and i’m sure I’m forgetting a brand or 4.

This is one way they can reduce weight of the shoe, keep the shoe feeling soft, springy and reboundy with that pop that people seem to like. Sure that foam is going to get scuffed. I’d spend more time worrying about wear and tear on my bike tires .

You shouldn’t be wearing through the rubber outsole anyway.

I’d bet the avg runner gets 300-600 out of the Pro’s. If you’re one of those runners stomping the ground with each foot strike it doesn’t matter how much rubber is on the bottom, you’re going to be on the lower end of the range. If you’re barely touching the ground, feet strike so light no one hears you run by, you will be on the higher end of the range.

really that goes for most shoes no matter how much or little rubber they have on the bottom

Thanks Brian!

Do the Kinvara Pro have the same feel underfoot as the Speeds (mainly talking about just walking around). I find the Speeds/Pro/Nike super shoes all feel very unstable while just walking around but once up to speed are good to go. I get achilles flare-ups if I wear my speeds too much which I assume is from some instability in the shoe. I wear regular Kinvara’s during easy runs which keeps the flare-ups at bay.

Thanks Brian!

Just saw this, haven’t been in the store in a bit bc of HS xc. I need to pop in this weekend for something. I’ll try them back on.

Email me so I don’t forget though please.

I feel bad the Shift is going away…

The Shift is being discontinued? As in, this is the last year? If so I may have to stock up. I really like that shoe.

That’s what our rep told me. I’m with you; it’s by far and away the most popular shoe we sell. I may stock up too as it’s such a good shoe at a great price point.

It’s weird how the shoes perform differently from a sales metric store to store. We sell way more Speeds than Shifts, although I think the shift is a great shoe.

Agreed. He said we sell a very large number of Shifts than most of his stores. I think it’s reflective of the different markets; you likely have a higher “true runner” clients where we have a varied mix. Locally many feel they know what they want without trying others so order online. That said, the Speed is such an awesome and versatile shoe I’ll go to that as both long distance and speed shoes. I haven’t found a shoe yet that could fill the hole left by the Shifts.

don’t you think the kinvara pro and the asics superblast are kind of the same shoe - same use case, motif, theme, whatever - made by 2 different brands? the superblast is lighter - 8.4oz to 9.5oz - but they’re both billed as performance trainers. i’d be interested to see how those 2 shoes perform when compared head to head by the same runners.
