I currently ride a very old pair of Look Keo Classic pedals. Any thoughts on how both the new Keo Blade and Keo Max pedals compare to the classic and to each other? Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks.
some a tiny bit lighter than others. So if you have infinite money, it would be useful to upgrade for the 0.01 second per 40k upgrade that the weight reduction will get ya.
maybe 0.1 if it is uphill =)
no reason to change as long as the bearings on your classics are still good.
My current pedals have some life yet in them but seem to be developing a little play or wiggle in them. I’m not so much concerned about the weight of the upgrades but rather how they feel. I know I do NOT like speedplays.

try new cleats, and/or tightening up the adjustment on the pedals.
I haven’t used the new Blades, but the Max has a larger platform (than the classic) and a nice metal pad for your shoe. The metal part gives me the impression that it is slipperier, and will wear better. The small disadvantage of the new blade is that the tension isn’t adjustable. It comes with either the 12N or 16N spring. I believe 12N is about the low end of the adjustment screw of the Keo Max- which is about where I set mine anyway, so I’m not sure it’s much of an issue.
other than that- it’s a price vs weight decision.
ive got the carbon ti blades and a pair of keo max on other bike, can i tell the diff prob but that doesn’t stop them feeling faster cause they cost 5X more!
If you are primarily a triathlete, get the Keo Max. I have older Keos on the TT bike, Keo Max on the road bike and Carbon Blades (16nm release) on the crit bike. The Blades have a super wide platform (I use no float cleats) and super stable and I’m not coming out of these in a sprint. I really love these pedals, but I’m not upgrading my others unless they die. Don’t know about the weight - don’t care. The Keo Max is a nice improvement over the old (bit lighter I think, more stable/wider platform that can alleviate hotspots in some, and not much more $).

I’m glad you are speaking so highly of the blades! I think Santa Claus is bringing them for me this year I’m getting them for a “more stable” platform. I’ve been on speedplays (unlimited float) since I started riding and a friend mentioned I may be able to better control my over pronation with a more stable platform. Also, limiting the float may also help keep me inline. Either way, new bike parts are always fun to get!
Happy holidays,
I got the Blades earlier this year and absolutely love them.
They are secure, stable, and have given me zero issues in one full season of riding in EVERYTHING. I raced cross with them, rode them through rain, sleet, snow, hail - zero issues with the bearings or the rest of the pedal. Not to mention they sound like a whip crack when you first clip into them (soooo sexy).

Haha! I love it!
Yeah, they are super loud when clicking in (opposite of say, Crank Brothers stuff like Candy’s or Eggbeaters) esp the 16 vs. 12 nm ones. Pretty cool
Don’t forget the *sometimes seen" Look Keo Aero Blade (a TT version). Don’t have blades but the Max 2 has worked well without issues since I got my new ones (my original ones had squeaks)…but not the new ones. Look was very responsive and helpful (going above & beyond in customer service), especially thanks to the help of Lennard Zinn who got the ball rolling with the original inquiry about the squeak. Go for the Max 2, it cost less & performs the same.
Well said. I have 2 pair of the Keo blades and 1 pair of the Keo Max 2 Carbon’s. I didn’t buy 2 pair of blades, I got one as a gift. I just sold a pair of them. (16mm) I kept the 12 mm ones.
I love both sets of pedals. If I were going to buy again, I’d buy another pair of the Keo Max carbons. Awesome pedals for the price.
