I was on the trainer this evening for the second time on a pair of Kenda Koncept tyres. After about forty minutes my wheel started feeling bumpy. I looked around and it looks like I’d been sawing wood - bits of yellow rubber everywhere and big nodules growing on the tyre.
Is this a particularly soft or heat sensitive tyre? Am I doing something wrong? I’ve used the trainer a lot with 700 wheels and this is the second time I’ve used 650s on it - the dial adjuster is at it’s absolute limit but engages correctly as far as I can tell.
Will be a new tire tomorrow but would be annoyed if the same thing happened twice.
I am not familier with the Kenda tire you mention. However, the general rule is that most of the mid to high end road tires and particularly ones that use natural rubber, do not fair very well on indoor resistance trainers.
Suggestion: Either get a cheap 700 X 23 road tire that does not use natural rubber, or Continental makes a dedicated indoor training tire that is very durable.
I did that with some blue Kendas on my P2K. Just melted and I never got the blue out of the adjoining carpet. $10 Continental tires from MEC works for me now.
