Anyone know why?

I don’t know but guess it was on the run. The easiest thing to get disqualified for would be outside assistance.
How tempting is it for age groupers to have someone help them along the way. For pro’s in is enforced more I think.
Again though i don’t know the reason, but have a hunch only from being on course.

How unfortunate.
This is the same athelete that assisted Chrissie last year with the co2 - correct?
The Aussie triathlon forum tansitions is onto it. haven’t read it but the here is something off the first page I went to :
Keat says she is appealing the DQ. She says she apparently received three cards.
At the race her sis was on a bike during the run looking for her. Don’t see anything wrong with that but it probably isn’t a good look?
But guess the cards were given on the bike course?

Drafting penalties i think. From reading more from Aussie.

Re: her sis’ looking for her on the bike.
This seems to be pretty common with family members, significant others, coaches, etc. I’m not saying that’s why she was DQ’d (I have no idea why/if). But, we’ve seen at several races splits being given, etc. on multiple locations throughout the course by the same person…not just a random spectator. In many of the pro meetings, we’re told no outside assistance, and a lot of times it is specified no splits, etc. by a coach, boyfriend, girlfriend, etc. But, that’s not at ALL of the meetings. So, if she were receiving outside assistance at this race of that type…it seems like it would be a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. It’s certainly not a penalty that you see very often.
Of course, we are also told to only toss trash, etc. at aid stations, and it was clear in the race that at least one pro tossed some trash while on camera randomly on the course and was not assessed a penalty…so, again I guess you would have to be at the wrong place at the wrong time, even though it was on tape! This rule even applies to water bottles or gel flasks that get inadvertently launched in race ‘if’ you are caught.

what race and what official have you heard saying no split? Not a ironman at least…that isnt even a rule.
Well, over all the ironman i did in my career, i have never heard of a ‘‘no split’’ rules. We are allowed to receive split from a friend or a coach as long as this person is stationnary when seeing you and dosnt pace you or ride with you on the run for exemple. There is no rules in the book about giving split, only about pacing.
Now, i have no clue why the DQ of beck…i m sure we will know soon.
But i think it s a very well know that split are organise and given to the pros at about every single races and i dont see anything wrong with it as long as it s done within the rules…
-no pacing,
-stationnary when speaking to the athlete.
but a coach, family, friend can leapfrog as much as they want as there is no rules against this so far.

I saw Lieto peel off the white arm “coolers” and drop them on the road early in the run. If I desparately had to get them off I’d do it and just hold them 'til the next aid station.

I personally would have waited till the coast was clear and ran out and grabbed them, had him sign them and hang them on my wall, framed.
But that’s just me.
I was told post-race by two unrelated volunteers in women’s run transition tent that up to 5 pro’s were DQ’d for peeing in their chairs…after specifically being told in pre-race that it was a DQ offense.
No idea if Keat was an offender or not.

easy explanation for that - must’ve thougt it was the doping control tent..

We heard it at a couple of 70.3s and Wisco. They mentioned no one riding/running with you as that’s considered pacing and getting no splits basically in the same sentence. But, they didn’t specify that ‘leap frogging’ was o.k. Not that I had to worry about this at Wisco, but the lead cyclists certainly weren’t supposed to say anything or give any splits.
What you say makes sense about being stationary, etc.
This doesn’t really provide an answer but it looks like Keat is as perplexed about this as we are. From the TBB forum:
At 9pm on race day, ironmanlive suddenly showed Bek as dq-ed which was unpleasant surprise for all of us after a hard day of work.
At 9:30pm Rebekah, family and myself went to the race office and sat down for nearly 2 hours with the head referee.
They had counted 3 cards which we talked through step by step and have susequently been debating rules and these cases for long.
While all discussions happened in a professional manner it is clear this was a very emotional experience for Bek who had a real hard time understanding how this sitation unfoulded knowing she fought a hard and fair fight today on the bike then followed by a very hard battle on the run to get herself back into the race from 12th at the start of the run into 5th at the finish line.
TeamTBB has officially disputed the disqualification at midnight it was decided all should step back for some rest and we are sitting down with the head ref again today, the morning after the race.
We will provide an other update later today when the head ref has also been able to talk to the individual refs who handed out cards.
I hope they get this straightened out in her favor. Must be really difficult for her right now.
Are you hoping she gets it in her favor because she is emotional about this, or because you think the DQ is unfair.
It’ll be interesting to see if she does indeed get this DQ changed, and than the actual reason for why she shouldnt be DQ’d. Because at this moment she must have done something that got her DQ’d, or the officials may have been over zealous. But I’d find that hard to believe considering these officials should be the best of the best for the race.
She is a class act, that’s why. No one knows why she was DQed, do they? So, how can I judge whether or not it was fair?

At least one of the cards must have come on the run, where there are no penalty boxes to serve out timed penalties. WTC rules put the penalty tents on the bike course and in T2, since the great majority of variable time-penalty fouls are handed out on the bike.
Were it on the bike course there is no way she could be surprised by a DQ, as it all plays out in real time out on the course (unlike USAT rules in which penalties are issued after the fact by the head referee long after the foul has occurred).
USAT Pro rules are immediate notification, with a stand down for the penalty time or notification and serving in a penalty box. Age Group rules add the penalty times to the final results.
